The Central Bank of the Argentine Republic (BCRA) put the new 10,000 peso bill into circulation in a context of high inflation and in which the use of cash becomes cumbersome taking into account that until now the highest denomination bill was 2,000. pesos.
Since its appearance was announced in January, the new note has already lost 40% of purchasing power. In the first month of the year inflation had been 20.6%, in February 13.2%, in March 11%, while it is estimated that in April it will be around 8%. In the first quarter, the Consumer Price Index accumulated an increase of 51.6 percent.

Low purchasing power
Beyond the examples mentioned, it is interesting to analyze the purchasing power that a $10,000 bill has in comparison to others of different denominations that were released previously.
When the $1,000 coin began to circulate, for example (November 2017), that amount could be purchased for 56.17 dollars at the official value (the dollar was quoted at $17.80 in Banco Nación). Today, a $10,000 bill is equivalent to USD 11.11, regardless of the exchange rate. That means that, at least in relation to the dollar, the new $10,000 bill is worth five times less than the $1,000 bill at the time it entered circulation.
In the same way, the same comparison can be made with all kinds of products. Taking as a reference the basket that Indec measures monthly to prepare the Consumer Price Index (CPI) , it is found that in November 2017 a $1,000 bill was enough to buy 49.1 packages of dry stew-type noodles . Today, with $10,000 you can buy only 7.67 packages of that same product.
The difference that occurs in a sachet of milk is also notable . In November 2017, a $1,000 bill allowed you to purchase 44.1 one-liter sachets, while today the $10,000 bill is enough to buy just 8.26 liters.
With a $10,000 bill you can buy only 3.36 1.5-liter bottles of oil. EFE
With $1,000 you could also buy 48.3 kilos of sugar and 46 kilos of rice , while today with $10,000 you can buy 8.22 and 4 kilos respectively of these products.
Finally, it is worth mentioning the example of the 1.5 liter oil bottle. With one of the new $10,000 bills you can buy only 3.36 units of that item, when in November 2017 a $1,000 bill was enough to purchase 18.15 units.
As can be seen, notable differences are observed in all products and in the most extreme cases it can be seen that a $10,000 bill is worth up to 10 times less than a $1,000 bill at the time it enters circulation, as demonstrated by the aforementioned example of kilo of rice.
Security measures of the new bill
The new $10,000 bill has strict security measures, incorporated through special printing systems. They are the following:- Watermark: in the blank sector, when looking at the bill against the light, you can see the portraits of María Remedios del Valle and Manuel Belgrano, as well as the initials of their names in a light tone.
- Windowed security thread: a red security thread is inserted into the bill and is revealed in three “windows”. The thread presents a dynamic effect when moving the bill. When held against the light, it is seen as a continuous band and the acronym BCRA can be seen.
- Optical Variability Ink: This motif changes color from gold to green when the banknote is tilted, presenting a dynamic three-dimensional effect.
The bill has identification for blind people: on the vertical edges you can feel the relief of the lines of the parallel bars.
