“The call is not as important as it should be because the CGT did not call for a mobilization,” acknowledged Eduardo Belliboni, leader of the Polo Obrero. At 9:25 p.m., Congress Plaza was empty while the deputies continued debating in the venue.

The call promoted by the picketers, left-wing parties and social movements to Congress, against the Bases Law promoted by the Government of Javier Milei, and which was being debated in the Chamber of Deputies, was scarce . Reduced, if compared to the number of attendees that were convened in April during the three days that the Omnibus Law was debated, which was more voluminous than the project agreed upon with the dialogue opposition and that, in each of those calls, led to confrontations. between the militants and federal forces.

Yesterday was a peaceful concentration, there were no incidents, the picketers did not defy the anti-picket protocol and, in correlation with the number of attendees, the number of troops deployed around the Legislative Palace was also lower than those stationed in February. . The special groups of the Prefecture, Gendarmerie, the Federal Police and the PSA, were waiting several blocks from Plaza Congreso. The presence of infantry troops was not even necessary, much less the terrifying motorcycles of the White Brigade of the PFA, or the hydrant trucks.

Perhaps the most important novelty was that, the protest against the legislative proposal of the National Executive Branch (PEN) was peaceful , as it should always be. At the same time, in the venue, there were fiery speeches and off-color phrases .

The greatest territorial deployment was made by the Polo Obrero, the MST, the MST Teresa Vive, and the National Piquetero Block and leftist parties enrolled in the Unity Left Front.

The Union of Workers of the Popular Economy (UTEP), under its umbrella, supports organizations such as the Evita Movement, Somos Barrios de Pie, the Classist and Combative Current (CCC), the Darío Santillán Popular Front, and the Movement of Excluded Workers (MTE). They also called, they arrived around 5 p.m. and were the first to leave. Out of conviction they did not decide to show muscle: they sent “representations.”

Yes, it was observed, an important display of columns of “neighborhood assemblies”, which in an organized manner, and without mixing with those with the UTEP and the picketers, broke into the Plaza Congreso almost at the same time with the Plenary of Retired Workers, the Coordinating Table of Retirees and Pensioners and Retirees of the Left who did so by marching on Entre Ríos Avenue, but without violating the anti-picketing protocol because they never stopped their march and were applauded when they joined the rally.

“The CGT should have brought forward the April 9 strike to today,” said Eduardo Belliboni, leader of the Polo Obrero (Franco Fafasuli).
Left-wing leaders and deputies

The person who best reflected yesterday's day of protest was one of its organizers, Eduardo Belliboni , leader of the Polo Obrero. “The call is not as important as it should be because the CGT did not call for a mobilization. If the labor confederations had called, because here, what is being discussed centrally, but not only, are labor laws that cost a lot to achieve.”

In another section of the dialogue with this medium, the leader of the Piquetera Unit - who turned 65 yesterday - pointed out: "The CGT should have brought forward the May 9 strike to today."

Regarding the police operation, Belliboni expressed, in dialogue with Crónica TV: “There is a tremendously expensive operation in the surrounding area, but here they are calmer, they have their helmets down, and so do we. We don't want it to rot and we are calling for people to come and for the CGT to come too."

What Belliboni said was exactly like that. Warned that there were no overflows in Plaza Congreso, the Minister of Security, Patricia Bullrich , avoided deploying the special groups around Congress. She also did not install the black metal fences that were piled up on Avenida Entre Ríos between Hipólito Yrigoyen and Rivadavia. Only a first column of young, unarmed federal police officers without police officers acted as a human barrier to surround Congress Plaza and put a limit on the protesters who at no time threatened to go down to the road to interrupt traffic.

Perhaps the greatest and best novelty was the peaceful democratic expression . Inside the enclosures, fiery speeches were heard. Outside the usual chants: “unity of the workers”; “the country is not for sale”; “Out with Milei” and, among others, “Down with the Bases Law.”

At 9:25 p.m. there was not a single flag left, not a single protester. And the few police officers who remained watched as the City Government workers began to remove the waste.

Myriam Bregman voted against debating “without intermediate quarters and by chapters, not article by article” and urged the militancy to “keep mobilized because this fight has just begun” Treatment "Bases Law" Myriam Bregman (Gustavo Gavotti)

Unlike February, in addition to the suffocating summer temperature, the mood of the attendees was different. Yesterday, the “hooded infiltrators” who, loaded with stones, sticks and blunt objects, began to throw at the federal forces, but also at the picketers and left-wing militants, journalists and retirees, did not appear and catalyzed the chaos that ensued -on the 2nd of February - in fierceness, injured, Belliboni admitted to intensive care because the police pepper spray closed his glottis and he could not breathe, and detained who were released shortly after.

Before 8 p.m., the left-wing deputies Nicolás del Caño and Myriam Bregman left the premises for twenty minutes, went up to an improvised stage set up in the middle of Plaza Congreso, they announced to the militancy that, at least until that hour, The Freedom Alliance had the votes to impose the Bases Law, and recalled that the left bloc voted against debating “without intermediate quarters and by chapters, not article by article” and urged the militancy to “stay mobilized because this fight has just begins ”, after the applause, he said “good night” to the militancy and returned to his bench. Two hours later, Congress Plaza was empty while the heated debate continued in the venue.
