Newcomer Power cuts this summer

Hi everyone,
I've been reading recently about the possibility of power outages this summer, and it seems it's no longer just speculation. The government has confirmed that there will be scheduled outages in January. The only question is how severe these outages will be. I've lived in South Africa for a long time and have experience with this issue. How serious is the situation here? Are the outages prolonged?

From my experience, power outages with Edesur tend to last longer than those with Edenor. I've never been without electricity for more than a few hours, but my in-laws have had to go over a day without it in the past.

I don’t think we’ll see many this year. The cost of energy has increased significantly, and because of that, people are cutting back on their consumption. As prices continue to rise, it’s becoming more challenging for people to afford the same level of usage, so many are being more cautious with how they consume energy.

They said they don't plan it for residential. With the big increases in prices they shouldn't have any power outages at all! They can't say they aren't making any money anymore. The prices have gone up about 300% to 400%!

According to my experience, I've had summers with power outages, but I have to say that they were never prolonged, just a few hours at most. My electricity provider is EDENOR, and I’m not sure if the claims about Edesur having more issues are true. I hope that, as mentioned, any outages will be scheduled and brief.
The provinces most likely to experience significant impact from these planned outages include Buenos Aires, Córdoba, and Mendoza.

I don’t want to be the bearer of bad news, but those in the know say that the expected electricity shortages for this summer could be double what the government projected.

Did anyone get stuck with no power? Fortunately I'm not in BA right now but a few friends said they were stuck with no power.

From what I was told this happens from time to time. In my apartment it went out out a few times but fortunately came back on. There was a big rain storm so I am not sure if that had anything to do but it has been pouring in BA for a few days. It would be terrible to be stuck with no electricity as it is very hot now.

My power went off at 6am just came back at 4pm. I live a couple of blocks from La Casa Rosada and their power was off too which eases the pain
Wow! That is a long time for power to be off. I remember one year it was like that and kept going off. Frustrating when it is so hot and humid out. Is it just power overload from everyone using AC?

Sounds hellish! Remind me why Buenos Aires is a good city to live in???

I tell people I want to maybe move to Buenos Aires and the reaction I mostly get from my American friends is why?? I like how late everything is and how you don't need a car anywhere. Prices are low for rents but I hate reading stuff like power outages.

As if the dog poop wasn't bad enough! But no electricity? No thanks.

I think BA is a cool city. I'm not sure about living there permanently. Things seem too chaotic. No trust society, unpredictable, high inflation. Fun to visit but considering the higher prices I would think there are better places to live. I found it totally safe. But probably spots in Europe that are cheaper than BA now.

This government is terrible. They increase rates 400% and they still can't manage to keep the lights on. Worst government in history!

Agreed. They raise prices 4x on electricity and makes you wonder. There are more problems now vs. when it was cheap.

But I don't think that they have taken any of the money to improve the infrastructure. The system was deteriorating from what I heard. The only difference is the government is stop paying the companies and people have to now. Improvements will probably come with time.
