I don't care what they say about me as long as they spell the name of the country Argentina right.

I don't think there is any rhyme or reason with some of these cuts. They just want to desperately cut spending. I heard that many of the people getting laid off are noquis but we know people that also got laid off and they had vital roles. In this type of deep recession not sure they will be able to find another job easily. Many other companies are also cutting staff or will be soon. 🙁
More ñoquis getting fired. They need to turn off the heat on them.Still a lot left!

@Larry, you're joking, right?
The article you linked explained very well why Milei should be there. Perhaps more importantly, what a great opportunity it is for Milei and Argentina to be able to have informal talks with Trump like that! Other world leaders wish they have such an opportunity.

We can agree to disagree. He is going to accept another award and it is some bogus award from some company.

He is just flying there and back the same day. Nothing a phone call couldn't do the same. Waste of taxpayer money!

Come on Larry! I am not thrilled about Argentina taking on more debt but if they do not get the funds and quickly things are going to go poorly for Milei. It seems like only reason the Central bank was able to stop selling dollars was because the IMF came out yesterday and reaffirmed the market. I thought today would be better but it seems like people are still nervous.

There are certain things you can't say on phone that you can say privately. The USA has helped out Milei with banning Cristina. Doubt that would happen if Milei and Trump were not so close.

Not sure what that award is but he is only going to talk to Trump about helping with IMF loan and maybe speeding it up.

Funny that Milei flew to the USA to accept an "Make American Great Again" Award. You can't make this stuff up. But it would be great if he announces a free trade agreement.

Honestly besides the IMF issue not much else matters. Trump is in love with himself and just like Milei because Milei kisses up and worships Trump. By this time next year, those who supported Trump will regret it. Trump is trying to do what has not worked in socialist Argentina. Trump and Milei have in common that their higher popularity is going to fade and most of the people will hate them.

Today's article in La Nation. Rightly or wrongly the narrative is shifting.

Also in today's Clarin

It seems like indeed his numbers are changing. With all the fighting in his own party not sure how they can really be successful in October. If inflation surges they probably are all done.

A phone call would have been much cheaper! Trump didn't even see Milei. I heard today from my friend that went to the event and he said that Trump's people even made Milei and his sister pay for their table! Imagine going to think that you are going to meet the President to ask for the IMF loan quicker and he refuses to see you and makes you pay $30k dollars a plate. Face facts. Milei is not smart. When will you understand that? I have been telling you since Day 1.

It is nice to see La Nacion and other newspapers finally criticizing Milei. Imagine wasting $500,000 dollars to fly to DC when the country is so bankrupt and getting conned into paying $30k dollars per plate all for nothing.

Milei got the IMF to lend Argentina another $20 billion, with $15 of it being disbursed this year. That amount is higher than expected and can give Milei a lot more breathing room.
CEPO ending earlier than expected, before the election.
"Dirty float" between 1,000 and 1,400.
Effective Monday, April 14th.
US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent coming to Buenos Aires on Monday and clearly showing support for Milei.
Bessent will be meeting with Milei and other members of Argentina’s government and business community.
Part of currency swap with China was renewed.

Finally some good news! This all sounds like good news. What does this mean for the exchange rate? What will happen on Monday? Anyone know what the blue will trade at?

It's a good start to start easing out of currency controls but we aren't out of the woods. I saved this article from 2018. Ha, ha. Look at it. Sounds familiar. Still, Milei is doing a lot of things that Macri didn't. But funny at the amounts and the floating between bands.

Sorry but taking a look things are still severely restricted. Only $100 a month. LOL.

This is the SAME failed policies as before. That is hilarious that you kept that article from Clarin from 2018! Same exact thing! Almost same amount and Caputo was also involved. And the band of ranges!

But doesn't all of this show you how desperate Argentina is? I am glad they are getting rid of some of the controls but this is not "CEPO ending earlier". The band of ranges was tried in 2018. I remember that. This seems like good news but we will know on Monday. All my friends said they are going to buy as many dollars asap on monday morning that they can with online banking.

Crazy crazy cray that they are doing almost the same thing as they did in 2018! That newspaper is crazy. Sounds like tried doing exactly the same thing.

But who the hell has pesos? Most people I know has been just spending all their pesos to get buy. And most people already bought dollars with their pesos. Sounds like the supply of pesos is going to dry up eventually. If they can get some more money from other institutions they sound like they would need it. Official rate should jump up monday morning. I guess there was a devaluation after all. Milei and Caputo lied as usual.

The way I read it was that they'll only let you purchase $100 using cash, but if you buy it with funds in your bank account, the restriction doesn't apply.
They are just limiting with actual cash. You can always do as much with home banking but they don't want people just going with undeclared funds. They want to try to get people to use funds they can justify. But it sounds like no limit with home banking.
