Did many expats move out of Buenos Aires due to the higher cost of living?

Truer words were never spoken Mike!

Selfies and penny stocks, good lord. Reminds me of that song "I don't wanna sell my soul, he's already in me. I wanna be adored..."

Argentina is not expensive in US$, is expensive in TAXES.

Very funny! I remember it from an old surfing movie, hilarious group of locals would ride the wind-driven waves on Lake Michigan. They were all missing teeth and sounded more Canadian than anyone I know.

Ha! That remains true Mike. Even with US real estate falling and Argentina rising, you still couldn't buy a new condo in Sheboygan, Wisconsin for what we paid in BA. Construction costs are just so much higher here.

Argentina is not expensive in US$, is expensive in TAXES.

I would dispute that simply because real estate is so cheap in Argentina, and renting is even cheaper than buying. Real estate is usually the biggest component of a family's budget, whether it's rent or mortgage/insurance/taxes for owners. Even if you have no mortgage, property taxes and...

Airlines adding more US to Argentina flights

Currencies are mainly about flows in the short to medium term. We all love to debate fundamentals but currencies can remain over or undervalued for years. When news broke that US$28 billion of foreign aid was flowing to Argentina this year alone, it was kind of obvious where the blue dollar...

Airlines adding more US to Argentina flights

https://simpleflying.com/7-daily-airlines-boost-buenos-aires-miami-demand-skyrockets/ Interesting to see US airlines rerouting planes to fill the growing demand for Argentina. Looks like AA's Miami-to-BA and Delta's Atlanta-to-BA flights are going to double in peak season. "In addition to...

End of Currency controls and the Cepo in Argentina

Prices are coming down in most markets but I'm not sure Trump has anything to do with it. We had 30yr fixed rate 2.5% mortgages for well over a decade and then almost overnight they rose to 7%. It limits what new buyers can afford, what lenders will appraise, etc. Real estate just takes a...

That is fantastic, I guess it's a few years away still but we'll plan on being there!

Looking forward to seeing you there Johnny! Park City is amazing but prices have gone crazy the past few years, Houses in the town center are going for close to $2000/sqft and RE taxes for non-residents are brutal. BA is a far better investment.

Good for her Betsy, I hope it means you get to spend more time together. Property management is a tough responsibility for sure, probably best left to the pros!

End of Currency controls and the Cepo in Argentina

That's how we viewed it Mike, a place to visit longer term (and motivation) vs. an investment. It was obvious that BA real estate was cheap but seeing firsthand what a great city it is made us want to own something there.

End of Currency controls and the Cepo in Argentina

Thanks Larry and I hear you. I was very disappointed in Milei's amateurism around that crypto scam but you have to give him enormous credit where it's due. There is simply no way the IMF/World Bank would be offering lifelines if another socialist kleptocrat was in power, and inflation almost...

End of Currency controls and the Cepo in Argentina

That's a very interesting perspective, thanks Wally. Yes we bought last year. We viewed it the same way - properties were far too cheap and unlikely to stay that way, and longer term we would have a toehold in a great city. Milei's reforms got us interested in the first place but it wasn't...
