Newcomer WTF is the deal with Pedestrians not having the right of way in Buenos Aires. I almost got killed today at a green light

I think by chance a patrol car was passing and contacted the ambulance service. My wife told the police her insurance would look after the small dent left in the car and she was just glad to see the girl was okay. No idea what happened to her but as she was all legit I suspect it was forgotten...

Newcomer Argentine rules regarding receival of foreign pension

I receive my monthly UK State Pension paid directly into my Argentine bank account in Dollars. It gets converted from £ to $ before it even arrives in Argentina.

Newcomer WTF is the deal with Pedestrians not having the right of way in Buenos Aires. I almost got killed today at a green light

We got hit by a girl on a moped and within minutes two police cars as well as an ambulance appeared out of nowhere which amazed me I have to say. The girl rider had a sore leg and was taken to hospital for a check up. My missus showed the rather attractive police girl her documents and shortly...

Trip Reports Primavera en Buenos Aires (Spring in Buenos Aires)

Life here goes on as normal because living with high inflation has been the norm for years and years in Argentina. The younger generation have never experienced low inflation!!

Food & Drink Does anyone else notice their coffee recently not tasting good?

The so called premium Argentine coffee brands Ive had were ruddy awful and overpriced. Best cafe coffee I've had uses the Illy brand of coffee. I suspect it desn't come chep though.

Newcomer What is your experience with your internet provider?

We've been with Personal/FibertelCabelvision or whatever the heck they're called nowadays for many years. Although we're in the Province we're not in Buenos Aires, we're out in the sticks. I've noticed especially in recent months the service is not as reliable as it once was. My missus deals...

Economy The impact of inflation and the dollar on the pocketbook: how much did wages lose in the Milei era?

Tough times but we were well warned it was going to happen. Truth is, in order to sort out the ruddy mess left by the K regime Milei had no other choice. Argentina has been living an economic lie for many years and only now has someone got the guts to fix it. Good on him I say. (y)

Newcomer My wife (Argentinian) claims you can live "well" on $1500 a month in Argentina. True?

It was a strange relationship as her mother could be pretty domineering at times. She was a very highly respected Notary which she allowed to let go to her head at times. I got on fine with her though. I wouldn't say they were particularly close but when dementia set in during her last years my...

Newcomer My wife (Argentinian) claims you can live "well" on $1500 a month in Argentina. True?

I havent a clue how much it costs to live comfortably in the US but I suspect she's right. What worries me is whether you'll be able to adapt to living here. We used to visit once or twice year from the UK as my Argentine wife wanted to make sure her mother was okay. She's the only child. My...

Is anyone else cutting back on vacation with the inflation? Most of my friends are.

Strangely enough, having not been back for years I'm thinking of going to Scotland this year for a visit. Our problem has always been the looking after of all our pets while we're away rather than the travelling costs. I'll probably end up having to go on my own leaving the missus to look after...

Any expats own gun in Argentina? Do you want to own a gun or firearm here in our country?

My wife keeps her late dad's gun under the bed. Also has his hunting rifles locked away. I don't like guns but as the gun was in the bedroom years before me I just keep my mouth shut.

Banking What is going on with the Blue dollar? Why is it going down?

Prices have indeed gone up. Hardly surprising as they've never gone down during the 16 years I've lived here. :D Truth of the matter is many years of masking the woeful state of Argentina's economy is to blame. Massa the K puppet especially. If you don't like what Milei has been forced to do...

Anyone else find the bread here awful

Must admit I'm not the greatest fan of the loose baguette type of bread you buy fresh from the bakers. It can be soft and fluffy or have a crust on it which you'd need jaws and gnashers like those of a British Bulldog to bite through it. If buying bread from a bakers I will only buy figazza...

Newcomer Forget Palermo - What are the Best Barrios for expats?

Should start by saying we permanently live in a small town out in the BsAs Province so you can ignore what I say. However my wife and I have a small apartment in BA situated on Ave Uruguay two blocks from Ave Santa Fe. I haven't a clue what the area is called to be honest. I like the area as...

Help! I'm getting married to an Argentine and have my permanent resident interview after marriage. What evidence is needed?

That's how it used to work but not in reality. I've had two letters from GOV UK sent to me which never arrived and no note was left by Correo at the house. My wife has had mobile messages in recent weeks tellng her to go to the main post office in town to pick up packages. Packages which they...
