Are salaries this low for expats or locals???

I spent a few months with a Big 4 consulting company's local branch doing security compliance, and I was pretty much the highest paid member of the team. I started out at 2.200.000/month in June and ended up at 3.100.000/month by November before I jumped ship to the startup I had already been...

How well does the city bicycles all over Buenos Aires with Ecobici work? Availability, issues?

I tried it a couple of times over the winter, but the couple of times I did, the bikes were pretty badly in need of maintenance.

Is crime getting worse? Is safety getting more complicated during this recession?

If you look at the full data, Brazil is now safer on that index than the US is. Food for thought.

Food & Drink República del Fuego

It depends. If you like them more as a dessert, Republica del Fuego. If you like them with blue cheese and jamon crudo, as an appetizer, Il Quotidiano.

The pears are always wonderful there. We like them there and at Il Quotidiano.

What could Milei do to convince haters like Avocado / Larry ?

Nope, Lula is selling off USD to prop up the real, which means Brazil is going to be temporarily more expensive, unless the markets recognize what is really going on. It's already fallen from 6.3 reales to 6.1 per dollar.

Food & Drink El Ferroviario Restaurant Parrilla, Liniers

In their defense, this is their milanesa. https://tn.com.ar/tecno/redes-sociales/2023/07/08/y-sobro-un-grupo-de-amigos-visito-el-bodegon-con-la-milanesa-mas-grande-del-pais-y-la-prueba-se-viralizo/

What could Milei do to convince haters like Avocado / Larry ?

He should've held off until January 1, so I'd be out of BR by then. 😂

Wooohoooo!!!!! One PR down, one to go!

When we did it a year ago, it was around 20k pesos for my wife's and around 40k for mine. At today's prices, it's 50k pesos for Mercosur and 100k for extra-Mercosur. The DNI has also gone up from 300 pesos to 6000 per DNI. The biggest trick is starting the letter writing campaign early, once...

    The 100 Best Argentine Wines

When they were starting to get difficult to find a few months ago, I bought the last 3 bottles Viners had and put it aside. I think I paid 27k total, back in February? So, 9k/bottle then... The 2023/2024 vintages are going for around 20k/bottle average, and the 2023 at least is very, very...

Food & Drink El Ferroviario Restaurant Parrilla, Liniers

El Ferroviario and Siga La Vaca are two of my favorites, so I'm both glad and sad to see them getting discovered by the expat crowd, lol. Glad, because they absolutely deserve the stops, sad because I don't want to wait in lines and see the prices spike. 🤣

    The 100 Best Argentine Wines

I'm lowkey surprised that my favorite Torrontes isn't on the list. El Esteco's Old Vines 1945, 2022 vintage is probably my favorite white of any varietal, mostly because it has strong lychee notes

What happens if Argentina gets too expensive? What are alternative cities/countries to move to when it's overpriced in Argentina?

I like Carrefour for a lot of my shopping, since I get 25% off using my BBVA Visa with MODO on Saturdays, and Dia for a bit of the rest because 20% Mercado Pago discount on Wednesdays. Whatever's leftover after those two, I use my Club La Nación discount with COTO.

    Newcomer Looking for Netting Installers

I used these guys. They did a good job with our new place, with the balcony and windows on our new place. 200k pesos to do the balcony + windows on our 3-bed.

What happens if Argentina gets too expensive? What are alternative cities/countries to move to when it's overpriced in Argentina?

I’ll say that my cost of living in Capital went down drastically when I stopped doing stuff in Palermo because I was tired of paying the impuesto Palermo. (The extra cost added onto stuff in Palermo because it’s overrun with gringos)

What happens if Argentina gets too expensive? What are alternative cities/countries to move to when it's overpriced in Argentina?

Admittedly I don't buy many of those $4.50 coffees, but at the same time, I'd like it if a breakfast at Havanna wasn't over 20 lucas by the time my wife and I finish ordering. There's got to be a balance, and maybe we'll start seeing it when the import tariffs start coming off.

What could Milei do to convince haters like Avocado / Larry ?

I'll be the first to admit I was not a fan of Milei at first, but I've come around. Is life as cheap in dollars as it was a year ago? Nope, but Argentina still represents a good value, and things definitely needed to change. A year in, I've liked a lot of what he's done, disagreed with some...

    ATM - highest withdraw limit

My situation isn't the normal foreigner/expat one because I am a resident and have local accounts with BBVA and a couple of other banks, so I've been able to pull 100k+ for almost a year. No idea when it'll catch up with foreign cards, though I could always run down to the bank a couple blocks...

    ATM - highest withdraw limit

BBVA is letting their customers pull up to 800k at once, so there's that.

It's time to relocate to Rio de Janeiro?

My wife and I took the JBL one when we went to RJ for our wedding party. It was pretty nice, and given the current prices for flying, with everyone in Argentina going there instead of Mar del Plata to take advantage of the currency weakening, it might be worth it. It was scheduled for 41 hours...
