Don Julio...best Steakhouse in the world?

I've had dinner at Don Julio twice in the past few weeks. I also have some professional experience as a restaurant reviewer. Don Julio is certainly deserving of a reputation, for the overall dining experience. But it is also overated. The quality of the meat, for example, is matched elsewhere...

Electronics My stolen iPhone is being sold on mercadolibre!

Okay...I agree with you on the principle thing. However, don't forget where you are. In most societies where the police does their job, this won't usually happen. People who steal other people's property are not so bold in those societies as to put the loot up on the internet and sell it off (it...

Newcomer More robberies in Argentina than anywhere else in the Americas

On a serious note, this scares the crap out of me seeing that most crimes are not even reported in this country!

Newcomer More robberies in Argentina than anywhere else in the Americas

Oh people, the above study is a plot by the IMF and the US government to take over the world. They just want to put down Argentina because Argentina is the best country in the world and is "a bad example" that the IMF doesn't like. You know...its all a big conspiracy! The whole world does not...

Politics Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner to give a speech at Harvard University

I thought the following comment was interesting. Anyone know if what the guy says in there is accurate (about the closing down of offices, firing people and especially the takeover of some of Clarin's stations?)?

Politics HUGE Protest Tonight 7 PM! Corrientes/Pueyrredon & Santa Fe/Callao.

I was out protesting for a while last night. I have to say it felt great. Most of the people there looked like they were partying so that's different than other protests I have seen in other parts of the world. But great feelings and partying aside. I have to ask what exactly is it that these...

Politics HUGE Protest Tonight 7 PM! Corrientes/Pueyrredon & Santa Fe/Callao.

Just came back from the protest at Acoyte/Rivadavia. Road blocked there, FYI. (Edit)Actually a big group and peaceful. People singing the national anthem, etc. Others holding placards saying "we're not even a little bit afraid"...a clear reference to CFK's "fear me a little bit".

Newcomer What fresh insanity is this?

Dude this is Buenos Aires expats forum. Its not about who you can bash and who you can't. In fact if you want to write about the US, there is a "World Politics" section. Surely you understand that. I don't get this need people feel to criticize "X" country just because Argentina is criticized...

Banking 15% surcharge on foreign transactions on Argentine credit cards starting Sep 1

Kurt and others who think this isn't so bad and not only that but are trying to justify these moves--I'm thinking its one of two things: Either you guys don't have any idea what you're talking about or you're just so numb to all the changes that you just want to tell yourself "it ain't that bad...

    Taxes Capital Gains Taxes

In Argentina, capital gains tax is computed similarly to your income tax. If you're considering a corporation, the tax rate is around 35%, and for individuals, the calculation method might differ (exact details may vary). It's worth noting that having a DNI (Documento Nacional de Identidad)...

    Getting married in Argentina.

They told us that it is to know if our blood type is compatible (whatever the hell that means) and also for the both of us to know if either of us has any disease that we didn't tell each other about (sounds stupid but whatever). They didn't check my visa (I had a valid tourist visa).

    Getting married in Argentina.

We had to book a spot 28 days before we wanted to get married. We then had to get our blood tests done 10-7 days before we were to get married. Then we had to take the medical test results, my passport and photocopy, and my wife's DNI and photocopy a couple of days before the actual day. Then we...
