Hi,

I am on verge of buying a "brand new" car in BA. Though because of busy schedules, I have not explored as yet.

What would be a ideal car to buy for driving within Capital Federal. I dont intend driving to different countries or different cities in it.

I dont like very small cars like Huandai I10 or Honda Fit/ Honda Jazz.

I don't like SUVs either.

I like typical American compact/mid size cars.

I dont want to buy a very expensive car to unnecessarily get attention.

I am not too gung-ho on brands. As long the car works well for couple of years.

I dont intend keeping the car for more than 1-2 years.

I dont mind paying pesos and receiving in pesos and money blocked in Argentina.

The car insurance, taxes, parking expenses wont hurt me.

Can you suggest me some cars matching my needs.

I like Renault, VW, Honda

I would not want to wait for weeks after ordering.

I would not want to spend more than 20000 US$

Just a debate/seeking advise from BA veterans.

Thanks

I have several friends that have a Peugeot 307 and they are very happy with it. They are relatively small, yet has room if you need it, powerful enough and they retain their values fairly well.

I'm in the same situation, coincidentally, so I'll be interested in the replies.
I do have one difference thats important to me.... in 2 years I want to leave so I will be selling the car and I want to take the proceeds $ with me. I've been wondering about driving the car to Brazil and selling it there.

I know, it may sound like a joke.

By any chance, any of the cheap/low end models of Audi or BMW or Mercedes will be available for under 25k us$?

Absolutely NOT. BMWs, Audis, Mercedes are at least double the cost as they are in the USA. Plus the license plate fee on them each year is high and also remember if you have a DNI you have to pay annual asset taxes on the car as well.

I don't think it's worth buying one of these luxury cars. Case in point, with tax/title/license I paid $75,000 US for a totally loaded Audi Q7 TDI last year in the USA. One of my friends in Argentina bought the same Q7 but with even less features and he paid over $150,000 US in Buenos Aires.

The worst thing is when you have any issues with the car, they most times can't even get the parts to fix it with these blocks on imported parts. It totally sucks! So I'd stay away from the higher end luxury models. Plus they are going to be more of a target for thieves.
