Argentine Leader Draws Fire After Cratering of Crypto Coin He Promoted - New York Times

You never know with these types of things. He should have just fired his sister after it. That would have gone a long way and the smart thing to do. Instead this will probably get dragged on.

I disagree about how he should have fired his sister, or at least publicly firing her. Not because I think she's a net positive, but more for the optics. Whether she influenced him or not, it was ultimately his decision and a dumb one from the beginning. He needs to take full responsibility. It was under his name and his account. Now behind closed doors that's a discussion they probably had.

It also did seem like things have been losing steam but BowtiedMara posted about this so who knows

Disagree. his sister was obviously guilty. She should have just resigned and saved him the aggravation of having to fire her. Optics is she is a crook and he is too or too dumb not to see it.

He needs to take full responsibility.
Ha. But I don't see that ever happening considering that this is the 2nd time he rug pulled. I know BowTiedMara personally and we just chatted on the phone this week. Funny, as he agreed with my assessment that Milei is losing steam. Many times people post things publicly but will say something else privately. Talk to many locals and although they do NOT want to see a return to Peronismo, many are questioning things right now.

I still think that Milei is the best shot that Argentina has. But if anyone is trying to deny that his approval hasn't shifted, they are in denial. Lots of polling shows that his approval rating has shifted and that is very normal with severe austerity measures. I've always said this will just depend on how much patience people have.

The problem is that there are so many die hard Milei fans no matter what happens they will just have the mindset the guy can do no wrong. The only way Argentina progresses is if people have the courage to say things that are just not working or corrupt. If Cristina did some of these things you would never hear the end of it. Can you imagine if Cristina did something like Libra? Or trying to appoint Supreme Court judges bypassing all the checks and balances? People have to have the same standard which they do not here.

I don't think it takes a rocket scientist to know that his sister is the one that told him to do it. He will never turn on her. He would probably sooner resign than make her quit or fire her. You are correct @FuturoBA he needs to take full responsibility but that is not what he did after it. He did the opposite. Things were going ok for him until Davos. After that things seem to be bad decision after bad decision.

Interesting. Not sure how people can deny his numbers are going down. I read a few polls and they all say the same thing. Not so sure it has as much to do with any one thing specifically but people just running out of patience.

Neither do I. It's politics where politicians and presidents don't admit mistakes, the former which he is becoming more of.

With those he's already fired and now not getting along with the VP I agree I don't see him turner on his sister.

Well lots of Milei fans are kind of blinded by everything that is going on. They are hypocrites. If CFK did some of these things he did they would nail her to the cross but their boy does it and it's ok. Partly why Argentina is so screwed up.

More and more articles coming out daily about the shift. How people aren't seeing this is beyond me but it IS happening.

Milei and his sister want to blame everyone else. But they can look in the mirror if blame is going to get doled out. This was a good article in today"s Clarin.
