Best places to buy leather goods in Buenos Aires?

Spend Thrift

Well-known member
I am not much of a shopper but I have a good female friend that is coming to Buenos Aires next week and she is asking me where to buy some good leather products as she heard Argentina has amazing leather products. Can some of you give your personal experiences on where to buy leather goods? Thanks.

I haven't been to BA yet so I have no personal experiences but my friends are there now and I'm making a list of all the places I want to visit.

Purses - https://www.shopblit.com/

Assorted - https://www.prune.com.ar/ (My friend said there is an outlet store in Villa Crespo)

Boots - (My friend said they have amazing leather boots) - https://maps.app.goo.gl/V2TSzVP6BfTGWfxd7

Leather rugs - (friend bought one for her apartment) - https://www.calmachicha.com/

Custom jackets and other clothes - Bettina Rizzi - https://maps.app.goo.gl/tKPfH2BQsW74Kdf47

Good list. Sounds like your friends are doing a lot of shopping.

Just be careful as lots of leather products here aren't high quality. There are all kinds of levels of quality here. Obviously better quality = higher price.

The highest quality leather is mostly exported outside of Argentina where people have bigger budgets. You have to be careful to check the stitching and seams to make sure it's well made. Feel it and if it feels very stiff or too rough it typically means it's treated and dyed to hide all the low quality imperfections with the leather. You can also smell it to see if it smells like chemical products. Genuine leather should smell like leather.

Lower quality and more affordable leather can be found on Murillo Street between Acevedo and Scalabrini Ortiz.

Sylvia y Mario has great stuff. They can do custom jackets. A lot of friends have used them and I have also gotten a jacket here - https://www.silviaymario.com/

Nimes in Soho has great purses - https://nimesba.com.ar/collections/todos-nuestros-productos

Other great purses -Las Cabrera (not to be confused with the steakhouse) - https://www.lascabrera.com.ar/

Trendy purses and bags - https://jackiesmith.com.ar/

Excellent list. I have purchased some purses at Nimes. Also, many things from Jackie Smith.

Very very good list. I'd avoid Murillo if you're looking for high quality leather items. It's mostly lower quality there.
