Can you stand on 1 leg for 30 seconds? How about a minute?

This simple test of standing on one leg can can indicate how well you’re aging.

"Adults in their 30s and 40s could balance on one leg for close to one minute. Adults in their 50s were able to stand on one leg for about 45 seconds, and those in their 70s for 26 seconds."

How long can you stand on one leg? Test your non-dominant leg, but if you're not sure which one is which, test one at a time. (!!!WARNING!!!: Test at your own risk...risk to your ego and/or risk of falling on your behind.)

Almost 2 minutes. Not so bad afterall.

While doing the tests with my eyes open, I was beginning to think I was immortal, so I thought maybe I was doing the test incorrectly. I decided to try doing the tests with my eyes closed and even after multiple attempts, my best time was about 40 seconds on my left leg and 50 seconds for my right leg. Most of the time it was difficult even going pass 25 seconds! I knew that our vision plays a big role in our ability to maintain balance, but I was still very surprised by how much more difficult it was to do that test with my eyes closed. In any case, if the test was meant to be done with our eyes open, then I think I'm doing well.

@Kimm is right about the importance of squats. @Vince, it will probably help with your knees. I have been doing them regularly this year and I definitely notice the difference. It felt like a very difficult exercise at first, especially trying to get to the point of having the thighs be parallel to the floor. However, it starts to get easier after just a few weeks. Just do what you can at the beginning, whatever you're comfortable with, and after a while, I think you will be happy with the results.
