Costanera​

The Costanera Norte is a good place to enjoy the beautiful views of the Río de la Plata

The Costanera is one of the places chosen by Buenos Aires residents to visit on weekends.


The Costanera Norte is one of the best places from which to appreciate the Río de la Plata. The place is a large open promenade with bike paths, food stalls (the famous choripanes), parks and the monument to Christopher Columbus.


The city of Buenos Aires has unfortunately always turned its back on the river; citizens do not have access to most of the coast and there are few public spaces next to the immense Río de la Plata. For this reason, the Costanera has an important urban, social and recreational value.

To take into account:

The city has two waterfronts: the Costanera Sur which is located between Puerto Madero and the Ecological Reserve (this waterfront does not have a view of the river since the ecological reserve is located) and the Costanera Norte which is located next to the Jorge Newbery Airport.

Places to visit on the Costanera​

Park next to the Fishermen's Club pier​

This park has very nice views of the dock of the Fishermen's Club, with benches and space to drink mate and ride bicycles (it does not have childish games). Address: Av. Costanera Rafael Obligado and Sarmiento.

Fishermen's Club Pier​

The Buenos Aires Fishermen's Club has its headquarters and the pier that goes more than 500 meters into Río de la Plata. On the pier stands out the European-style building that belongs to the headquarters of the fishing club, in addition there is a freshwater fish aquarium and a restaurant

Access to the pier is only for members and only on some organized visits is the general public allowed entry. Address: Av. Costanera Rafael Obligado and Sarmiento.

Monument to Christopher Columbus​

The Columbus Monument was donated by the Italian community residing in Argentina in 1910 on the centenary of the May Revolution. The monument is the work of the Florentine sculptor Arnaldo Zocchi (1862-1940). The work has a total weight of 623 tons and a height of 26 meters. At the top of the sculpture stands the statue of Christopher Columbus, weighing 38 tons and 6.25 meters high, sculpted in Carrara marble . At the base of the monument, the sculptural group represents different verses from Medea, the work of Seneca, which symbolize “Science”, “Genius”, “The Ocean” and “Civilization”. Different passages related to the life of Christopher Columbus can also be seen along with some allegories that represent Faith and Justice, History and Theory and Will. The Columbus Monument was located next to the Casa Rosada until 2013. Address: Av. Costanera Rafael Obligado (in front of the entrance to the Aeroparque).

Costanera Norte Sports Park​

The Costanera Norte Sports Park, also known as Saint Tropez Park, is a public space especially dedicated to the practice of skate, longboard, bowl skate, flatland, mountain bike and rollers. The park has 7.5 hectares and among its facilities it offers the skate park of 2500 m2, a 500-meter longboard track, a 50-meter snakebowl meters long, two bowls of 10 and 6 meters in diameter. Address: Av. Costanera Rafael Obligado and La Pampa.

Restaurants on the Costanera​

In a sector of the waterfront there are different restaurants that over time became classics at meal time, such as Siga la Vaca and Happening.

Memory Park - Monument to the Victims of State Terrorism​

A green space that remembers the victims of state terrorism of the civil-military dictatorship.

By bike along the Costanera​

The entire waterfront has a bike path next to the river. An ideal bicycle circuit for walking or playing sports with beautiful views.

To fish​

The waterfront was always one of the most popular places for fishermen. Although the river is shallow during the downflow, many fishermen claim that with a bit of luck you can catch some boga, catfish and even small doradillos. It must be taken into account that the river has significant levels of pollution and that fishing must be with return.

How to get to the Costanera​

The North coast is located on Avenida Costanera Rafael Obligado, north of the city, next to the Jorge Newbery Airport.

By colectivo (bus): lines 33, 37, 45, 160.

By train: Belgrano Norte, get off at Ciudad Universitaria station (walk 12 blocks).

This is a great write up! Thanks for taking the time to share it. I like going there with my son and he will ride his skateboard. We will drink some mate and typically get a choripan. It's a good cheap escape.

"I had a wonderful day strolling around the area and was truly impressed by the beauty of the place. The river views, the fresh air, and the relaxed atmosphere made me linger there for quite a while. Of course, we brought our mate kit as we had read that locals gather there to enjoy mate and the outdoors.

Later on, we had a picnic and tried some grilled meat sandwiches and choripan sold at the food carts. It was such a great experience if you want to unwind and enjoy nature. Highly recommend it for anyone looking to relax and immerse themselves in the beauty of the outdoors
