Food & Drink Does anyone else notice their coffee recently not tasting good?

I also watch my olive oil use. I used to go through tons as I love to eat it with bread daily. But it is sad I cut back. And the shocking thing is Argentina is a major exporter of olive oil so they can't use excuse of IVA taxes to import it. It is more expensive here than USA and Europe!

Argentina has the biggest increase in cost of Olive Oil.

Coffee prices in BA are a joke! Very expensive. Meanwhile look at type typical cafe in Rome and the prices for water, soda or coffee. A fraction of the costs in BA!
I have to agree with you @Larry the coffee here is extremely expensive. This is one of my biggest complaints here. I don't understand how coffee can be so expensive here. Also many places don't have good coffee.

One of my favorites is Juan Valdez Cafe. They have some locations but they opened a new location in Recoleta. Very friendly staff and good coffee. They are dog friendly too.

Good consistent coffee there but the prices are not cheap! I went the other day and it was 47,000 pesos for a half kg bag. That is too rich for my blood. I have resorted to making my friends be mules when they come to BA and bringing from the US.

My favorite cafe by a long shot is Blanca Deco and Cafe. They have two locations but the one I go to is by Plaza Holanda on Sinclair. The best coffee in BA.

That's insane. In Colombia Juan Valdez is considered an average cafe, they serve coffee in carton cups pretty similar to Starbucks and I'm not fond of it. Smaller specialty coffee brands are much better: an espresso is less than 2 dollars and half kg bag of high quality cofee between 10 and 20 dollars. Of course, local produced coffee so it makes sense is cheaper, but 50 US$ is too much!

:ROFLMAO: Very true! In the US no one really drinks that. Like you said @enbits a mediocre brand but my standards have lowered here as the coffee is so hard to find. What coffee do you buy here? I don't really like any of the locally produced coffee here. What is your favorite brand? My family hates Starbucks back home but when they come here and buy beans they sometimes resort to going there to buy beans. Or Cafe Martinez.

Bonafide sells good coffee from Colombia and Brazil and you can go to the store and buy coffee beans or fresh ground. Flat & White is a small specialty coffee brand they have a couple of coffe places in BA, an online store and youtube channel. They sell coffee from different countries of Latin America.

I like Bonafide with some of the Colombian and Brazil beans. Coffee prices in general have gone up but the import taxes here are crazy for coffee. Something else that bugs me is how expensive Coca Cola is here. Some places charge as much as 5,000 pesos for a Coke. Last night at the soccer game they were charging 5,000 pesos ($4.50 dollars) for a coke. Crazy considering the low wages here.

Yeah sodas are expensive here. I've definitely cut down on sodas lately.

I've been to Rome a few weeks ago and I found it expensive. In some places a small beer was around 6 euros. Uber is 30 euros, maybe the most expensive in Europe. Uber in Madrid and Paris are around 10 / 15 euros.

That is one thing here in BA that is still cheap. Ubers are real value still. How were coffee prices there? I don't think a great coffee will be more than 2 euros there.

I don't remember exactly but around 2 euros. Meals around 30 euros but you need to pick the place, for example that place where a 30cl bottled beer was 6 euros the pasta was really bad.

Yes, a great coffee in Italy is only around 2 Euros. Fabulous restaurants there and not too bad on the price. I'm always in Italy and food is very good there.

I think our standards are different, and it also has to do with what each country is accustomed to. In Argentina, the coffee is usually milder and less concentrated compared to countries like Italy or Spain, where people prefer stronger coffees. This might make us, foreigners used to stronger coffee, find Argentine coffee less satisfying. I haven’t heard Argentinians complain about their coffee. I believe the difference in preparation and local tastes, along with the quality of coffee in some places, is what might make us less impressed with the coffee here.

Actually Colombian coffee is pretty light in flavor, and it's considered to be one of the best ones in the whole world. It's all about the roasting: Italians would heavily roast the beans, while in Colombia they usually go for a light roast which requires the coffee beans to be of excellent quality and the result is a coffee not only lighter in flavor but with more distinctive notes like caramel, almond, etc.

Agree that Colombian coffee is good. I also like the iLLy brand from Italy. To me that is hands down the best but it is so expensive here. I settle for Colombian coffee. I find the Italians roast the beans the best but that is personal preference.
