I was warned that the subway is a bit sketchy. I never used the subway there. Ubers and taxis are so cheap there. I just walked or took Ubers my 10 days there. Sorry this happened to you.

This was part of the reason my girlfriend wanted to move out of Buenos Aires. She thinks the situation will get worse. Maybe things will get better next year but there will be a painful transition until things get better. Costs are getting out of control on many things and healthcare costs keep shooting up. I think once this next round of utility hikes goes up, people will become desperate at the poorer levels.
Buenos Aires is relatively safe but there have always been minor theft of things like phones. It is picking up now that the economy is so bad. Didn't Apple come out with some theft deterrent system in their software? I got some notice to update my ios and said something about that.
Yes the newest ios has an update although I'm not sure it really does anything for people stealing it in the first place. People can always steal them for parts too.

Funny. I find Asia extremely safe! Even with high poverty in many countries I never have to worry about my phone. I once left my iPhone at a bar in Tokyo and went back 2 hours later and it was still there.I went back to Bangkok and the train was packed during rush hour and I automatically put my hands on the pockets of my pants for fear of a possible pickpocket (habit I suppose) but then I realized oh I don't have to do it here. It's safe and no one will pick my pockets no matter how packed the train might be
Coming from Asia...LATAM is an entirely different world. They say CABA is considered one of the safest places in LATAM yeah but the bar is pretty low.
Very true. I find Buenos Aires very safe. As you all mention, petty crime like cellphone theft is the most common. Also, you have to be careful in restaurants with purses. My wife once got her purse stolen in a restaurant after we had our first child and she wasn't paying attention as the baby was crying. We watched the security footage and the thieves there are world class.
Asia is truly amazing. 2 summers ago I traveled with my family all across Asia. (South Korea, Tokyo, all over Vietnam, all over Cambodia, Singapore, all over Thailand). Very friendly people and extremely safe. We sent our high school student daughter this summer to study in Seoul alone. We probably would never do that with other countries but felt comfortable doing that in Asia.

Hard to say because BKK is huge and it caters to all sorts of lifestyles. Apartments are cheaper and more modern with nice amenities and facilities and there's even an oversupply. I'd say for a not so fancy lifestyle, you could live comfortably with $2,000/month or even less (rent included). I'm going to rent out my 55 sq.m 2-bedroom pad and I'm only asking for $550 (mind you this comes with a 50m pool, clubhouse, gym, parking, security etc). A 29 sq.m one bedroom/studio type apt in the same complex is rented for around $280-300/month.
It seems like many of the apartments there are very modern and have many amenities. I also watched some videos online and they always show expats in fancy buildings with nice pools, great views, great gyms. Most times they say it's about $400 US per month for one bedroom. I see 2 bedrooms people showing $500 to $800 per month but they look very fancy!
Not sure on prices to buy but a few friends moved there. Many retiring in Thailand are doing it because they can't afford to retire in the States. A lot of broke people retiring there. Probably can't afford to comfortably buy a place there and why do it if rents are so cheap. What is the monthly condo fee for your apartment Jakoval? I assume they are very low?
Yes, most apartments for rent come fully furnished. For a studio or one bedroom apt at my complex it costs around $60,000. The room I have is being averagely sold around $120,000.
The monthly fee varies according to the size of your apt. Mine is considered cheap it is about $0.90/sq.m./month (around $600/year). But I think the average per sq.m now elsewhere is around $1.2/sq.m./month depending on how fancy your apt is and where it is. Some fancy ones are more expensive of course. Since mine started cheap, certain years it is not enough for the complex to fix this and that and they do ask more.
Prices seem very reasonable there. I figured with rental rates so low the prices were probably low too.
$600 a year seems great!! I haven't been back to Thailand for several years. I would love to return again. It must be very popular now as an expat destination as I always see it on my Tik Tok For You page now. It seems like many are moving there.
Have a few friends that live in Bangkok and Phuket. They are loving life. I visited them a few times. Miss the food there. Plentiful and cheap and delicious! Rarely ever spent more than $5 for a meal there. Something I was surprised was how expensive alcohol drinks are there. I was going to a few places with them and the prices were as much as the States. We spent more on booze than food.
