Is crime getting worse? Is safety getting more complicated during this recession?

Crime in the USA is getting worse every day since there is no charge for crimes under $1000 of damage. No one pays for the bus anymore. Liberal hellhole
People greatly exaggerate the safety of the United States. Outside of a small number of cities here it is very safe in the United States. Nothing like what you see in some of these cities in Latin America.

I saw this guy getting beat up by the Leftists in BA. He is literally getting chased for blocks and getting punched. Aren't there police around? Aren't people afraid of getting arrested? I guess maybe installing cameras all over the city isn't a bad idea.

I saw that yesterday. Probably wasn't smart going to that crowd but I agree with you about the lack of police and how quickly things can escalate. I guess these people aren't scared of getting arrested which is scary.

Reminder to myself. Don't wear my Make Argentina Great Again t-shirt to a rally for the other side. Check.

I find Buenos Aires to be a very safe city compared to other world capital cities. I have seen far more crime in my many trips to Paris vs. Buenos Aires. Much of the crime in Buenos Aires is non-violent crime and by far the most popular is cellphones getting stolen. Also, if you wear an expensive watch it WILL get stolen. I can't emphasize this enough.
For those worried about getting their phone stolen, look into getting one of these bad boys.
🙂

That is funny. People talk about how bad BA is with phones but I didn't see anyone getting their phones taken during my 2 week trip. I heard 10,000 phones a day are stolen there. I guess we were lucky.

Buenos Aires, like many major cities, has safer areas and some that may be a bit more problematic. Overall, it's important to stay aware and take precautions, but it's not an inherently unsafe city. Cell phone thefts, for example, are isolated incidents and do not represent the norm. Most people enjoy their time here without any issues. It's just advisable to stay alert, avoid displaying valuables in public, and follow the same precautions you would in any other big city.

It’s just as Legend says, you just need to be cautious and avoid talking on your cell phone in the street. It’s like any big city. If you’re in neighborhoods like Palermo or Recoleta, it’s uncommon to see criminal incidents, so don’t worry too much about it. It’s more about what people say than how things really are.

But then I don't put much faith in this if it's saying Brazil is safer than the USA which is not true. Brazil still has a lot of crime in some areas. My friend just got mugged in Sao Paulo. She said it's very dangerous there.
I'd say Brazil and the US are similar - Pockets of violent crime, while most of the country is relatively safe. Where I live in Eastern New Mexico, I've never locked my front door. But 150 miles away in Albuquerque are neighborhoods the police don't even go at night.
Same where I lived in CA - totally safe in my city, but 90 miles to Los Angeles where even in the day time some areas are just a no-go.

If you look at the full data, Brazil is now safer on that index than the US is. Food for thought.
I haven't looked at the website or data. I'm not sure what the metrics are or what they are using to calculate but I would definitely not say Braziil is safer than the US.

I would say you have to really see which cities they are talking about and what the metrics are. The USA is fairly safe in most cities. Also in Latin America a LOT of crime is not reported at all. Obviously parts of several cities are a no go but I've been to every State in the USA and most are very safe.
