Museum Day 2024​


On Saturday, May 18, Museum Day arrives in the city of Buenos Aires , with free visits, activities and shows.

The city of Buenos Aires celebrates International Museum Day with a day of open-door museums and cultural, historical and archaeological spaces in Buenos Aires, with free admission. In each of the establishments there will be activities for all audiences, most are without prior registration, but many have limited capacity (we recommend seeing the programming below).

When is Museum Day​

The date is Saturday, May 18.

Museum Day is an event that takes place in different cities around the world promoted by the International Council of Museums (ICOM), in the city of Buenos Aires it is organized by the Ministry of Culture of the City.

Sívori Museum​

2 p.m.: Creative Saturdays. Textile sculpture workshop for boys and girls from 6 to 12 years old.

5 p.m.: Appointment with artists: Majo Prieto, Beatriz Malavé and Enrique Espinola. Conversation with these three participants of the Biennial Textile Art Exhibition, within the framework of the exhibition of the awarded and selected works in its 28th edition.

Buenos Aires Museum​

3 p.m.: Investigate the heritage. Within the framework of the temporary exhibition “From the car to the painting. The history of fileteado porteño”, the institutional curator Paula Carrella will take a tour of the exhibition and will talk with the public about the work required by the research and design processes of a heritage exhibition.

Saavedra Museum​

4 p.m.: Restoring history. Guided tour carried out in coordination between the conservation and restoration teams and the museum's educational area. We will tour the main rooms to learn the stories behind the objects that tell the story. The museum's restorer will discover the interventions or particularities in the restoration processes of each piece.

Museum of Modern Art of Buenos Aires​

10 am: Bosquizarse Workshop: an experimental space to learn with plants. The practice of environmental restoration in an urban context allows us to establish a connection with all the non-human and more-than-human beings with whom the city is shared. Within the framework of the Three Ecologies program, a collective plantation of native species will be carried out.

11:30 a.m.: Modern Sensations. Sensory exploration space aimed at people with CEA (autism spectrum condition). Many senses are activated when visiting the museum. This space for play and creativity invites you to take a trip of sensory exploration based on the exhibition “One Hundred Paths in a Single Day”, to evoke the city and the works of art in it. The proposal, led by the Moderno educational team, is open to the public, aimed at families and people with autism spectrum conditions.

3 p.m.: Clues that are confusing. Continuous creation space aimed at the general public.

3 p.m.: Family visits. Participatory tours aimed at boys and girls through the new exhibition “Modern and Metamodern”. Dialogue tour led by the educational team to awaken creativity through the museum's exhibits. Then, participants will be able to make their own creation.

4 p.m.: Public tours. Dialogue tour of the rooms of the new exhibition program “Art is education”.

4 p.m.: Kaleidoscope. Regular art workshop for children and families.

5 p.m.: Tours in Portuguese language. Dialogue tour of the museum rooms.

5:30 p.m.: Infinite rehearsal. New artistic experimentation workshop for teenagers. It is a space for adolescents to expand their interests and explore various artistic languages, techniques and disciplines. In relation to the works present in the temporary exhibitions and the museum's collection, throughout the year a body of productions will be formed that reflect their personal and collective searches.

5 p.m.: Special guided tour of the “Perlotti Monumental” exhibition. It makes visible the museum team's research on the monumental work of the great sculptor Luis Perlotti.

Carlos Gardel House Museum​

5 p.m.: One hour with Pichuco. Guided tour of the museum by Gabriel Soria, director of the Museum and curator of the exhibition “Troilo, the other Gardel del Abasto”. The objects and documents donated by Aníbal Troilo's family for this exhibition will be highlighted and unpublished video reports of great personalities speaking about Pichuco will be shown.

6 p.m.: Screening of the film Pichuco. In commemoration of the anniversary of the death of Aníbal Troilo, this documentary will be screened on the work of the emblematic composer and bandoneon player.

Pablo Ducros Hicken Film Museum​

5 p.m.: Guided tour. It is carried out through the permanent exhibition, expanded in tribute to the 50 years of the Museum and the collection that gave rise to it: cameras, devices and other objects related to the cinema of Pablo Ducrós Hicken. The exhibition, in turn, narrates significant aspects of the history of cinema in Argentina from technological and cultural points of view.

6 pm: Presentation of the “50x50” catalogue. 50 years of the Cinema Museum”. Celebrate the first fifty years of the Museum through pieces from its different collections. The selected objects are accompanied by texts written by people who, from their daily work in cinema and other areas of national culture, accompany the Museum on its path.

La Cisterna Archaeological Site​

Address: 550 Moreno St.



From 1 to 6 p.m.: Archaeological Site of Montserrat, the most important in the City. One of the greatest archaeological discoveries in Latin America, located in the Historic Center, allows us to understand the urban complexity and historical richness of the city over four centuries. The discovery of this structure gave rise to twenty-one archaeological excavations that motivated the creation in 2023 of a new exhibition space, in charge of the Heritage area. And La Cisterna is the fundamental piece that, due to its dimensions, is one of the largest in the region.

3 p.m.: 360 Viewpoint of the La Cisterna Archaeological Site and guided tour of the place. Capacity: 40 people. The visit to the La Cisterna Archaeological Site is not suspended due to rain.

Barraca Peña​

3 p.m.: Gathering “La Boca, an open-air museum.” By Carla Bassi. A space to learn and share stories about Riachuelo, the port and its workers, the train, the old factories, the sudestadas, the tenements and their people, the artists, the origin of football and the archaeological discoveries that enriched the city's heritage. . May Gesta Tour​

Meeting point: Pasaje 5 de Julio and Belgrano.



End of the tour: Plaza de Mayo.

4 p.m.: A tour of Argentine history that culminated in the deed of May 25, 1810. This story goes back to the English invasions of 1806, allowing us to characterize the time, the geopolitical situation prevailing at that time and the significant events that triggered the May Deed. The Historic Center of the City was the scene of the events and on this occasion it will be the area to be visited. The buildings and spaces that will be seen will be pieces that will allow the story to be woven together.
