Food & Drink One of the best seafood and ceviche restaurants in all of Buenos Aires - La Mar, Cebicheria Peruana

Buenos Aires doesn't have many good places for really good seafood. People mistakenly think because Buenos Aires is on the water that it will have a lot of great seafood but this isn't really the case at all. Most places do NOT have good seafood. The exception is La Mar, Cebicheria Peruana in Palermo Hollywood. This place is amazing! Just keep in mind it's not cheap. You can easily drop a few hundred dollars if you're with a group of people.

The only thing I think is lacking is the last few times I have gone the service hasn't been that good. It's hit or miss. I think with the poor economy, the service staff in a lot of places is just depressed. Usually the service is good but the last 2 times it took forever. Or I'd ask for a bucket of ice and it took forever to get. At these prices, things should be perfect.

The menu is quite extensive and the ceviche's are stellar. So if you like ceviches you're in for a treat. But again, be warned that you can drop a lot of money here. I went with 2 friends and with drinks and the food for the 3 of us it was $350 US dollars with tip. But the place is always full. I come for happy hour a lot after work with some friends. It's a great scene. They have seats inside and a big area outside as well. There is always a friendly girl outside at the hostess stand.

I agree Buenos Aires does NOT have good seafood restaurants overall. This place is an exception. I agree l lately the quality of the staff has suffered. I come in here for client meetings at happy hour often and I find myself having to ask the staff a few times for cups, ice, etc.

But the food I can't fault. Must visit!

This review is spot on target. We rarely find good seafood but this place is top notch. It's not cheap however. Be prepared to drop some money if you order a lot here. But it's worth it. Come hungry. Everything is delicious.

It seems like I always make it to La Mar at least once per trip. They have amazing ceviche here. They have some great shrimp dishes as well. I came with a friend and we both had an appetizer, a ceviche dish and a side of white rice. He had a beer and a glass of wine and I had bottled water and a coke zero. It was all really delicious and the place was totally packed. We didn't have reservations but the girls at the front always usually snag me some seat even if I don't have reservations. She got us a spot at the bar and we ate there. My friend was blown away by the food. Said it was the best ceviche he ever had. Total damages was 71,400 pesos = $70 USD plus tip. Very good food.
