Expat Life: Local Discoveries, Global Connections

The CEO of Carrefour announced that the company will stop sourcing meat products from Mercosur countries

I also wonder how it will affect their grocery businesses in Mercosur countries. Carrefour in Brazil is already trying to minimize the local backlash, but it seems like not only rural businesses but also other players like hotels and restaurants are also making calls to boycott the chain.

I am not sure if many will participate in the boycott. In some areas, it's the biggest game in town. In some towns there aren't many good options.

And the Brazilians fight back...

Interesting. I wonder how much this translates to lost sales for both sides.

I agree about boycotts but rather than a customer boycott, some largest companies seem to have withdrawn their products from Carrefour Brazil. I don't think they would like to have empty shelves in their shops

As a result I understand that Carrefour is backtracking, https://www.lemonde.fr/en/economy/a...ontrol-against-brazil-boycott_6734214_19.html

I saw this post on X. Are groceries really that much more in Chile and Uruguay?? I went to Uruguay and thought it was very expensive. I didn't go to any grocery stores but looking at the data it seems crazy how expensive things there are.
