Politics Thread: President Javier Milei - Decree of Necessity and Urgency (DNU) in real-time

wow, i have Avocado muted, so i had to click to see these 4 more posts in a row. what a strange disease, being so obsessed with a new president, that it becomes one's entire identity. i saw this with Trump in the USA, and i'd like to coin a similar phrase for weirdo @Avocado: Milei Derangement Syndrome

note the grave diagnosis: Milei in one month of presidency, being blocked by Congress/Unions/'news' is responsible for:

1. today's inflation.
2. the 'failed experiment' of fiscal responsibility, spending less money than the Peronist chaos before.
3. loss of "rights" that are the worst since a dictatorship
4. not joining BRICS
5. destroying the economy (which was purportedly just fine, until a month ago)
6. environmental damage

wow, it sounds like the AntiChrist was elected! again, anyone else find it fucking weird that a local person like Avocado is sitting and posting all day on an Expat forum, spouting political propaganda and being negative 100% of the time?

I bet @Avocado is a decent person who would buy their round in the pub after work has finished.
the political views of @Avocado are very similar to my beloved suegra.

In fact, sometimes I think it is her but she cannot speak or write in English.
Thank you dear @GlasgowJohn. You do have me pegged right. I most certainly would buy you a round. (But not @StatusNomadicus ) who is very rude and uses bad language and is in our country illegally. Maybe I am your dear suegra and I am learning English on Youtube. :)

I respect that you said something nice about me. I am firm in my belief that Milei is going to destroy Argentina and hurt the people. I am far from the only one that believes this. I speak to many friends and also people on street on bus and the subway and all agree. It too painful.

Thank you for say nice things. I also think you very kind. We can agree to disagree about Milei.

It impossible you for mute me. I live in your head rent-free. This makes me very happy. You only in my country for some weeks. You don't know Argentina. You don't know my country. You don't know how the things work here. You don't know the true suffering of the people. You take all you information from Google but you don't live a real day in the life of people here for many years.

This change from Milei hurt the real people. You here illegally and you think you understand. You even scared to across the ferry to Uruguay for your illegal status. Suffering is only starting. The inflation now skyrocket much more than previous Presidents. It just starting now with Milei. My healthcare go up 30% in one month. Next month go up another 35%. That too much for the people.

More bad news for Milei fans. Bad times coming.

Another report by the Ecolatina consulting firm said that inflation will average a monthly 20% between December and March and that real salaries will fall by 10% in that period. It added that the scenario would imply a recession.

Thanks for posting that. The most important part of the article was this part:

Anticipating the figure, presidential spokesman Manuel Adorni blamed Alberto Fernández’s government. “Every point of inflation is the responsibility of the previous administration,” he said in his daily press conference on Thursday, and added that people who blame Milei are being “childish or naive.”

You are definitely not my suegra ...you are far too nice.

Meanwhile, we will continue to disagree about Milei!

I totally agree with you @GlasgowJohn. I have many friends or acquaintances that sound like Avocado. They were against Milei winning. My attitude is that we needed to try change. Without it there is NO hope for Argentina long term. These people also agree there needs to be a change but they just don't articulate what type of change if not Milei.

I think most of them realize that Milei didn't cause all of this mess but they don't want to face the truth that all this inflation was caused by previous administrations. Lots of blame to go around and IMHO he is doing his best to fix it. I can't say if it will be successful or not. No one can. I've always been realistic in my approach that systemic change most likely I may not see in my lifetime. I had hoped that Milei will put the "train on the tracks" for my kids to see.

There has been and probably always will be tremendous problems for Argentina. This trainwreck isn't going to turn around any time in the immediate future.

I think people understand reality it was bad idea to vote for Milei.

@Avocado , I wouldnt believe everything you read in Reuters!

All the guys I know who voted for him are still supporting him!
I do not need Reuters to see the suffering of Argentine people. I see it everyday.

Also all the people I know who voted against him still think he the wrong choice for Argentina and things much worse now. Touche.

Milei's approval rating is going down like the Titanic.

President Milei did a great job at Davos.

Argentine president praised for calling out Davos elites abandoning freedom for socialism: 'Drops truth bombs'

'We’re here to tell you that collectivist experiments are never the solution to the problems that afflict the citizens of the world,' Javier Milei told WEF

I thought this was a good take on things.

  • The devaluation, at least for the next few months, increases the Argentine inflation rate, which was over 200% in 2023. Milei's budget cuts will also cause a plunge in household income, as well as a deep recession.
  • The economic pain will embolden Milei's opposition — including in the courts, which have already suspended many of his early decrees. A general strike is planned for Wednesday.
What we're watching: Werner is hopeful that Congress will be at least minimally cooperative, that a good agricultural harvest will help replenish foreign reserves, and that inflation will fall to an annualized rate of 50% by the end of the year.

  • Argentina being Argentina, however, Werner notes, it's entirely possible that Milei's opponents in Congress will block most of his policies and devastating hyperinflation will result.
