BUENOS AIRES, Argentina —

Former President Donald Trump has told Argentina’s President-elect Javier Milei that he plans to travel to the South American country so the two can meet, Milei’s office said Thursday.

The office did not give a date for when Trump intends to be in Buenos Aires. The inauguration of Milei, a right-wing populist who has expressed admiration for Trump, is scheduled for Dec. 10.

“The president-elect received a call last night from the former president of the United States, Donald Trump, who congratulated him and pointed out his triumph by a wide margin in last Sunday’s election had a great impact on a global scale,” a news release from Milei’s office said.


A local journalist who was first to report the news, Luis Majul, wrote on X early Thursday that the lawmaker son of former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro, Eduardo Bolsonaro, was the one who “facilitated” the contact between Milei and the GOP front-runner. “That’s right,” Milei posted in response.

Trump celebrated Milei’s victory with a social media post of his own on Tuesday.

“I am very proud of you. You will turn your country around and truly make Argentina great again,” Trump said in a video published on social media Tuesday.


Milei has often been compared to Trump, whom he praised in an interview with former Fox News host Tucker Carlson earlier this year. During the interview, Milei called on Trump to “continue with his fight against socialism, because he’s one of the few who fully understood that the battle is against socialism, that the battle is against the statists.”

His conversation with Trump on Wednesday took place a few hours after Milei spoke with President Joe Biden.

The White House said Biden congratulated Milei and spoke of “the strong relationship between the United States and Argentina on economic issues, on regional and multilateral cooperation, and on shared priorities, including advocating for the protection of human rights, addressing food insecurity and investing in clean energy.”

Everyone around the world is calling Javier Milei. Argentina is a "unicorn" and breadbasket to the world. Best beef, soy, corn, oil, gas, lithium, and endless clean water. You're going to see Argentina's potential unlocked in the next few years.

Trump seems like a blow hard to me. Still, he seems better than the alternative of Biden. I visited San Francisco before my flight to Buenos Aires. That city has gone downhill fast! I drove by in an Uber by the Golden Gate Bridge and I saw about 7 cars in a row with broken windows like someone smashed the window to try to steal things. It looks like the Democratic party and their governors are to blame. It sure wasn't like that when I last visited when Trump was President.

@CanadaGoose politically, did Trump really do that much different than Obama/Biden? he spent more than Obama, drone-striked all the same countries, didn't withdraw from Afghan/Iraq, didn't pardon Snowden or Assange, and masterminded the COVID "vaccine" and allowed Fauci to lockdown everyone for over a year. i really don't see much difference; it's called the Uniparty for a reason, and it seems the goal is to just get us to hate each other to distract from the fact that the Epstein client list hasn't been released, Pfizer/etc. made record profits when the economy was in shambles, the Pentagon/Federal Reserve haven't been audited, and our personal liberties are eroded every year in the name of the "war on terror" AKA Boeing/Raytheon revenue.

Oh no, please don't get me wrong. I am not a Trump fan either. I am not American. We are dealing with our own moronic leaders in our own countries. I think something happened the world over with leadership that is horrible.

I don't know how much better or worse Trump is from Biden or Obama but all I know is when I visited the USA to visit relatives in the USA, especially West Coast it was NEVER like it is now and the past few years. I can't go into many drugstores to buy anything. Everything is all locked up.

As you mentioned, signs on doors that say please don't break windows. I saw many of them too. Guess what? The windows were still all broken. People don't care. It's anarchy. It's happening all around the world. That is why I was so pleasantly surprised to see Buenos Aires so calm with their 150% annual inflation. It was shocking to see the calm. Maybe they are used to it over many decades.

I don't want to get painted on either side of the USA political parties as I have no stake in that country. I just know it's gone down hill by a large margin since Biden got elected.

My mother-in-law is deeply immersed in politics, consistently expressing anti-Trump sentiments and celebrating Biden's victory. Despite her opposition to socialism, she found solace in the recent election results, acknowledging the lack of appealing choices. During a conversation about Trump's visit, which I dubbed a 'meeting of the clowns,' I highlighted the mutual admiration between Trump and certain figures, such as Milei and the Trumpistas' support for him. Strangely, she seemed unaware of these connections, possibly hesitant to admit their ideological similarities, despite her constant political consumption through radio, TV, and YouTube.

In my view, Milei visiting Trump in the U.S. seems more plausible than the reverse. I can't fathom what Trump gains from playing host instead of being a guest—a move that exudes alpha male authority. Currently, I'm skeptical about whether Trump will follow through with the visit, considering his tendency to discuss plans without execution. Online comments from U.S.-based platforms express sentiments like, 'I hope he stays there, and his MAGA supporters follow him,' alluding to Argentina's historical association with Nazis post-WWII. Personally, I'm indifferent to his visit, as long as he steers clear of the particular corner of Argentina where I reside.

Someone should tell Trump that Argentina has an extradition treating with the USA! Ha. ha.
