My life dream is to live in Palermo Hollywood

I lived there in a AirBNB from December 1 this year. I'm not from the USA but I don't qualify for any type of Visa

I loved it there so much mostly the absolutely beautiful women if you just walk around the streets every block I would see a woman that would make me say "I have a dream" like Martin Luther King. Also around the Palermo subway stop around 5pm each day the women are heavenly.

I feel like it has ruined my life and I will never be happy living anywhere else. Wherever I live from now I will compare it to Palermo Hollywood and be sad. I'm caught in a miserable trap.

🤣🤣 BA has beautiful women. Be careful, if you're not careful you will end up marrying one like many of us on the forum.

@PalermoHollywood where are you from? What do you do for work? BA is a great city but not that easy to make money here. Jobs pay very low.

Yes! I married a Porteña a while back. It is fairly easy to live here. I know many that have been permanent-tourists and have been here for many years. So far you can just pay a fee and overstay. Not ideal but many people do it. I have a friend that has been living here for over a decade doing this. After you live here 2 years you can apply for residency here. It is not like many countries where you will get deported but listen to Wally about tough to make money here. Ideally you have a remote job.

What do you love so much about it? Is this driven just by the females or is it more than just the females?

BA is great but got expensive. I did a long term lease last year and my condo fees have skyrocketed. A fun city but did you check out Rio? I just got back from there and it's half the cost of BA and the males (I am gay) and the females are beautiful. Many cities around South America with beautiful females. I agree BA is the best of the lot.

What is not to love here? You are right Palermo Hollywood is awesome! I would love to live in that neighborhood but it is more expensive. You an go out a bit further to Villa Crespo and it is cheaper. The women here are so gorgeous! I have been dating a local for a few months but it is very tempting to just date as there are so many beautiful girls here.

What country are you from @PalermoHollywood? Why does it matter that you aren't from the USA? Does that have any factor with type of visa? The process here is a pain in the ass. I tried it and gave up as immigration lawyers want to charge a fortune. I am too cheap to pay for a good lawyer. My girlfriend tried to help me but it is a nightmare with paperwork and Apostillized documents. Argentina is a nightmare with getting things translated. It is highway robbery what they want to charge.

No joke probably marrying a local is the quickest way to get a passport and be able to stay here forever. 🤣 I joke with my ex-girlfriend about that.

No joke! I just signed a lease earlier this year and just crazy how quickly the condo fees have gone up in a short amount of time. I heard Rio is insane. I have yet to go but many of my local friends are going there for vacation next month. Heard the girls there are beautiful too. I want to check it out.

What are you worried about?! You can just stay living in Buenos Aires without a visa. You must be the only gringo that is worried about it. My friends have been living in BA almost 2 years just on tourist visas. No one cares there! One was traveling around every 90 days but she gave up on that to save money and just pays a fine once she leaves the country. She has done it a few times now and no one seems to care.

The guys are hot in BA too from photos my girlfriends send me of guys they hook up with but no one wants to get serious they said. They are getting ready to leave BA when their lease expires. Said it got too expensive. One is in a nice building in Palermo Hollywood and her monthly hoa jumped up to almost $500 dollars a month!

What do you do for a living? It actually is not that difficult to set up getting a rentista visa if you have some income from abroad. I think it was originally for rental properties but I talked to someone that did it setting up a trust and just paying dividend income. Does not sound hard but like the others said you can pretty much stay in Argentina just paying a fine.

The girls here are great! Very dangerous with how many hot girls there are here. I have a girlfriend but sometimes I wish I didn't. Before we started dating exclusively I was going out a lot and having fun! Nothing beats BA for nightlife.

Just make sure if you move here you have enough $. Easy to spend money here going out every night. Before I settled down with my girlfriend I was going out a lot. I probably couldn't afford it now to go at the pace I was going. There are a lot of rich kids here that are living off parents money here. I am blown away by how many of my girlfriend's friends that don't seem to have a real job. Just from rich families that seem to have bought them their own apartment, pay all their bills and give them money to live each month.

I don't know how some of it do it as they are going out to eat every night. I'm on a US salary working remotely and wonder how some of them do it. I can't explain it other than their families pay all their bills. Palermo Hollywood is great! I'm in Soho now but I like Hollywood much better. Soho is tourist central but even over in Hollywood there are a lot of tourists but feels different.

The energy of BA! Nothing else like it in the world. I live in Spain now but nothing like BA. I miss it.

Buenos Aires will do that to you! The city will spoil you with its delicious steaks, amazing wines, and beautiful women. No city quite like it.

This seems to be a common theme with many tourists that come to Buenos Aires. I always feel proud of my city when I hear people that fall in love with the city. Just be careful. I met an American female that fell in love with the city (and a male here). She quit her job in America thinking it would be easy here. Now she can't find remote work, going through her savings and found out the guy was cheating on her.

I feel like she ruined her life. She left a good job and career and now is living here illegally. I don't understand it but it sounds like she entered the miserable trap that you are in @PalermoHollywood!

I am in this same situation. I love it here. I want to stay and even started looking at apartments to buy. I looked on zonaprop earlier this year and the prices are up quite a bit since then! Hard to believe they could go up so quickly. I am shocked. It is still much cheaper than back home.

I found a PH in Palermo Hollywood which is my dream area too. I think it is the best neighborhood by far! The realtor that I met with said that I have to get the cash here. Am I understanding it wrong? I asked about wiring it here but they said it needs to be cash. Is this correct?

Wow. This kind of describes me. 🤣 I guess it might be smart to think twice. I work remote but I want to see if my company changes anything this coming year. I want to move here so bad but don't want to make a mistake.

It's not a good idea to move anywhere in Latin America unless you have a steady stream of income or a lot of savings that will last you into retirement. I know a few fellas here in Brazil that moved here earlier in life and they are out of money now and older and have no retirement savings. I'm not sure what their plan is.

Good cautionary tale. I know a few dudes that I met in Colombia like this. They fell head over heels in love with girls to rush to move there and not easy to find a job there. I really like BA. I am here now. Exploratory trip. Very nice city. I thought it would be more dangerous but pleasantly surprised you can walk all over town without any problems.

I am staying in Soho and really touristy. I like Recoleta better and more quiet there.

Palermo Soho or Hollywood is ok to visit on vacation for a week or two but Recoleta is a better choice for many to live. A good idea is to rent apartments in different neighborhoods to see how each is living.

Are general expenses (restaurants, cafes and groceries) more expensive in Recoleta or less expensive than in Palermo?
I found restaurants were cheaper in Recoleta overall vs. Soho. Things like touristy cafes are much more expensive in Soho or Hollywood with coffee about the same as the US. In Recoleta I went to a lot of cafes and they were sometimes half the cost as in Palermo. I thought everything was overpriced more in Palermo Soho. Grocery stores were a little less in Recoleta. I just think with many tourists they price everything higher.

The same bottled water in Soho was more than in Recoleta which I thought was funny.

@PalermoHollywood are you still here? Did you check out other parts of BA? Did you decide to stay?

I agree with @Uncle Wong. I live in Recoleta and prefer it better than Palermo. It is more residential and central. Things are less expensive here. We have anything you could possibly want all closeby. There are a lot of tourists here too but mostly concentrated near the Alvear Palace, Park Hyatt, Four Seasons area. There are some pricey places too but overall prices are less than in Palermo.
