Yep. Soho had it everywhere. It's funny because Soho seems nice during the day. But I was walking late at night as I was leaving a friend's apartment. Go late at night and it is kind of depressing. Many of those nice stores have a protective barrier and it is all spraypainted over. Why is there so much grafitti in Soho vs. other areas?? I don't see this in Recoleta or even Palermo Hollywood isn't that bad.
And dog crap is all over Soho. Like everywhere! I noticed the same as Craig. I wonder why this is?
Very true. I was one of the first people that saw the potential of Soho back in 2003. It was nothing like it is today. There were no businesses like today. I started buying up a lot of properties and real estate there. It is ok for a few nights but I don't actually like that area to live in. If you're just coming in town a week or so on vacation but it's too touristy and as others mentioned, there is dog poop everywhere. It's funny when I go to BA each year with my kids, my youngest daughter will always play a game and say "watch out a landmine". She literally is saying it a few times on each block there. LOL.
The vandalism is terrible in Soho. You nailed it
@reggie about at night when the shutters are down you can see all those stores are totally vandalised. Those shields save them from all the paint. Many places are like that. Here is a photo of a house that I purchased back about 20 years ago for a client. I bought up a lot of properties like this. Most of them I have since sold but the owner still owns this one.
Look at the before and after photos. That is how much of Soho was before very clean. Now a lot of people just don't care and spray paint everywhere. It's terrible that they ruin beautiful buildings. The owner painted it several times but she finally gave up.
This photo below was a few weeks ago. She has since had to install a metal gate to the door because homeless people are sleeping on her front door.
It's funny because before Palermo Hollywood was more sketchy, especially at night. Once you passed the train tracks it used to be a bit scary at night but now Palermo Hollywood is so much nicer than most of Soho. Much cleaner, more beautiful, less vandalism. As to why? I just think once thugs see some vandalism they just add to it. Also, several of these places in Soho are businesses during the day but at night no one is there to watch over them. Palermo Hollywood has more residential buildings and more security so there is more of a constant presence of people watching. Same in Recoleta where it's mostly residential buildings and many have doormen or security or constant presence of people nearby. It's also cleaner so people are less hesitant to do it there.
I think there will be a huge growth phase around Soho and Hollywood. I like the area of Palermo Freud and also the area from Soho all the way over to Recoleta. It's more central and a lot of growth will happen there. It's very convenient. There aren't as many restaurants and shops around there but I think that is a good thing. I'd much rather just take a 5 minute Uber vs. staying right in the heart of Soho. Palermo Hollywood is fantastic too.
