Argentina set a new record in yerba mate exports in 2024, surpassing 44 million kilograms, according to reports from the National Institute of Yerba Mate (INYM).
This achievement surpasses the previous record set in 2018, when 43 million kilograms were exported. Syria remains the main destination for Argentine yerba mate exports, followed by Chile, and there is also growing demand in countries like the United States, Spain, and other European nations, as well as emerging markets such as India.
Comparison with previous years: The 2024 exports exceeded those of 2023, which were 39,700,553 kilograms.
Although exports reached a record, the internal consumption of yerba mate in Argentina experienced a decrease in 2024.
Between January and November, sales in the local market were 238,042,303 kilograms, a figure lower than the same period in 2023. The most popular formats for domestic consumption remain half-kilogram and one-kilogram packages, which account for more than 94% of sales.
