Real Estate Sales Another micro-neighborhood of Buenos Aires' Palermo - Palermo Freud

It is good to see they will develop that area. We have fond memories of that area. We lived in BA many years ago from 2000-2005 and vividly remember the first Starbucks that opened up in Buenos Aires. We stood in line 2 hours at Alto Palermo to get a coffee. Great to see many good coffee houses...

I don't care what they say about me as long as they spell the name of the country Argentina right.

Argentina is a wonderful country but full of many issues and problems. Hopefully, someday it can turn the corner but things are very complex there. My husband was the CFO of a large company there and most days wanted to pull his hair out. He often says it was the most stressful point of his...

What is celebrated on July 9th in Argentina?

When my husband worked in Argentina he had all the Argentine holidays and also all the US holidays. It was very nice. Argentina has the most in Latin America.

Politics Does Having Children Matter for Leading a Country? amazing what this peronist politician says!

Some people are grasping at straws. These days not too many are having kids. It's sad. Many have no desire to have any kids or even to get married.

Banking What is going on with the Blue dollar? Why is it going down?

We were also very happy with the exchange rate. We looked last month and it is much better for us. We had heard things were very expensive here now but not finding that to be the case or at least we were expecting much higher prices.

The Best & Worst Countries for Living Abroad (Expat survey)

We lived in Argentina from 2000-2005 and loved living here. We recently came back a few days ago and we see the city better than ever. We lived there during the corralito and devastating crash. We came expecting things to be dire but the city is beautiful and crime seems to be at bay. We see...

Politics Argentina's Milei declares energy sector emergency, sets stage for price hikes - Reuters

I just saw that they are going to freeze rates this month instead of going up. It sounds like they already went up but this probably is a relief to many!

Banking What is going on with the Blue dollar? Why is it going down?

I am not sure if someone already posted this link but it was very educational to learn about CEPO and what Milei is trying to do. It sounds like once locals can buy as many dollars as they want the exchange rate will be favorable again for expats with dollars. :)...

Help! My tourist extension visa was denied today

I think you are wise not to want to break any laws. But I have found that many people want their cake and eat it too. I have die hard friends that are anti-immigration in the USA but then they try to live in Argentina without getting residency. I tell them you can't have it both ways. Somehow...

Politics Thread: President Javier Milei - Decree of Necessity and Urgency (DNU) in real-time

Yes that is a notion that my husband and I also follow. Truth somewhere in the middle. We have never seen an Argentine president so in the news. Here in the US we see a lot of press about Milei and the mostly good work he is doing. And some in large prominent publications. This was in today's...

Politics Thread: President Javier Milei - Decree of Necessity and Urgency (DNU) in real-time

It is very difficult for those of us that aren't on the ground there in Argentina. News is all over the place. I read articles like this below that say people that voted for him in November regret it. But then I talk to some friends we know there that voted for Milei and they say he is doing a...

    Black people in Argentina

We also lived in Recoleta from 2000-2005 and it is remarkable to think about but in the first few years I don't even recall seeing any black people. But then again I read about many Chinese grocery stores and back then they didn't have many Asians at all or the markets that you read about...

Is the Expat party in Buenos Aires coming to an end?

That is what my husband who is in finance tells me. He actually worked in finance for an Argentine company and we lived in Buenos Aires from 2000-2005. He said Milei inherited quite the mess and no doubt hyperinflation would be an issue. He is saying that inflation should slow down with the...

Legal Any risk to constantly overstaying on tourist visa? How many times can you do border runs in Argentina?

Yes that probably predates Mercosur and how easy it is now for other residents. I lived in BA back then and I don't remember it being too easy to enter. We did have many from South America but probably entering all illegally.

Politics Tomorrow, May 9th, the country will come to a standstill - National strike

Interesting. So it sounds like Milei did come from $$$. I mistakenly thought he came from more humble family but I guess if he is getting all of these dogs cloned for many years he must have some family $$.

Politics Tomorrow, May 9th, the country will come to a standstill - National strike

I agree! I am a long time lurker but finally signed up today. I lived in BA over 20 years ago and haven't been back since but always wanted to come back to visit. My heart goes out to all those suffering. This website has the best information on what is happening in BA. Every day I read new...

Politics Tomorrow, May 9th, the country will come to a standstill - National strike

According to this article it says Milei's father is part owner in DOTA? https://en.mercopress.com/2024/05/09/argentine-security-minister-tells-cgt-to-go-to-work?utm_source=feed&utm_medium=rss&utm_content=main&utm_campaign=rss&ct=t(RSS_EMAIL_CAMPAIGN)
