Argentina Unveiled Mandatory Registry For Bitcoin And Crypto Platforms

I cash directly in a US bank, but I hold crypto in a cold wallet. Trust no one! ;)
I just started getting into Bitcoin the past few weeks while prices were lower. I heard cold wallet is the safest solution. I just bought from Coinbase but it sounds like cold wallet is the only way to go as long as you don't lose the password or lose the wallet! Although for this guy, losing his password probably is the best thing as he couldn't spend all those bitcoin!

There are trade-offs between storing in a platform (Coinbase / Binance) or in a cold wallet.

The 2 biggest trade-offs of platforms are:
  1. Security: if the platform get's hacked you'll loose everything
  2. Bureaucracy: if you have a bunch of money you may have to pay taxes, send papers / photos and you may have issues moving large amounts of US$ at once
The biggest trade-off of cold wallets is:
  1. Security / Responsiblity: if someone stoles your seed phrase or you lose it you're done. A seed phrase is a set of 12/24 words that is virtually impossible to recover.

Yes, advantages and disadvantages of each. Still, I would think if a bigger company like Coinbase got hacked, they would make the client whole. I know people that are finally getting funds back after Mt Gox hack back in 2014. He jokes probably the best thing as he would have spent it.

As far as taxes, seems like most governments around the world are going to make it so if you're an American you're going to have to pay taxes eventually. People that bought in earlier probably are more protected.

Many, many people get their seed phrase stolen or lose it. Amazing that happens but it does all the time.

I am not familiar with crypto but isn't this a net positive? Why would any legitimate holder of crypto care about this unless they were shady and avoiding taxes, involved with trafficking of drugs or buying drugs. Normal banking across much of the world has been regulated. Why should bitcoin or crypto be any different?
oh nooooo, the war profiteers have convinced you that spying on you, printing endless fiat money, and taxing your effort are all necessary for some kind of Social Contract. i highly recommend you read the Whitepaper and learn about Blockchain/Bitcoin...Bitcoin was quite literally made as a rejection of central banking and Fiat currencies. www.bitcoin.com/bitcoin.pdf and

the IRS and Federal Reserve of the USA are some of the most evil, war-profiteering crooks in human history. i've been to afghan and iraq, and i'm done supporting the ForeverWars of the US Empire. i will never pay taxes to the Federal government unless they threaten to kill me. our Dollars right now are killing children in Palestine and Lebanon...how horrible

the crypto industry definitely needs to be regulated. Look at all the scams,
this is indeed what State Media wants you to think. and why they imprison Ross Ulbricht and are trying to arrest Kim Dotcom. please read the links above!

Argentina President Milei Disappoints Some Bitcoiners as Crypto Registration Rule Begins
The nation unveiled a mandatory registration process for cryptocurrency platforms.
yes, disappointing along with his obsession with Netanyahu and NATO unnecessary wars. and his weird conversion to Zionism. but maybe he is just trying not to get assassinated? :p

he wants to spend money and support Ukraine. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
he's a clown like Trump when it comes to foreign policy, and he should be ashamed to call himself a Libertarian when it comes to foreign entanglements, considering how EVERY SINGLE ONE that he quotes was against imperialism and overseas interventions.

like El Salvador.
Bukele is also a clown, a Christian Nationalist who has great crime policies, but is a moron when it comes to BTC (high fees that his people can't use as cash), and he calls himself a Philosopher King like a psychopath. he's also a socialist, which is common for Christian Nationalists (think: Nazi Germany and Fascist Italy)

Yes, I am very surprised crypto is not more utilized here. I thought it would get faster adoption here in Argentina under Milei but doesn't seem like it.
@Jordan i feel you...Argentina has been such a joke for Crypto. everyone wants USDT or TRX-20 ... for people so scared of government seizures and taxes, they sure avoid p2p cash like Bitcoin/BCH/Monero/etc. - i was very shocked, and still am

@Uncle Wong how goes your Crypto/blockchain journey?

also a joke. he was anti-crypto for 4 years and now he's claiming all sorts of crap he will never do (Ross Ulbricht, bitcoin-friendliness, blahblahblah). we in Argentina ought to be skeptical of Populism given the Peron/K history of promising [insert popular thing here] and then just continuing to crush the middle class and liberty,

you know what we should say to Harris when she says she'll fix the border? "why aren't you doing it right now?? why didn't you do it already???"

same thing for Uniparty Trump - "why didn't you do it the first 4 years?" - both Harris and Trump are politician-chameleons who will do whatever to gain more power. the only argument for Trump was in 2016 when he could have acted like an outsider, like Milei currently is. we now have data from 2016-2020 and all he did was expand the Federal government, spend more than Obama, restrict crypto, ban bump-stocks, and drone-strike children at an escalating pace (oh, and he tried to regime-change Assad in Syria...pepperidge farm remembers)

Thanks for posting all this great info. It seems like the original purpose of Bitcoin is so far from its original goal. Anonymous and it looks like it's not any more.

It seems like there are no perfect candidates. If they are good on one thing they are horrible on another. The world over is like that now. It has come down to the lesser of two evils.

Everyone I know that deals with crypto says the same thing about disappointment with adoption. But are locals scared of government seizures? I think it's more for taxes but not sure. They all seem obsessed with $100 USD bills here. I was told that probably won't change even with Milei.

never meant to be anonymous - Monero may be better for that (never used XMR)

and not meant as a Dollar investment:

"A purely peer-to-peer version of electronic cash would allow online payments to be sent directly from one party to another without going through a financial institution." https://www.bitcoin.com/bitcoin.pdf

but both are evil, and we can opt-out. i just posted about the evils of two-party Populism here:

Do you know anything about USDT @StatusNomadicus? My friends down in BA are mostly using that to transfer in and get cash at the cuevas but they said there is something changing with the laws to make it tougher on USDT? Why is Argentina so gung ho on USDT vs. others?

I am not sure most people will register their crypto. I know a few friends that hold bitcoin and they would never tell the government that they own any.

Hard to believe they got any one to declare some of their crypto with the amnesty but they probably needed to buy an apartment and needed to show where they got the money.
