Expat Life: Local Discoveries, Global Connections

Yep, I have a local account with them. As for pulling with a foreign card, I actually don't know at this point, since all of the non-Argentine debit cards I have with me have expired and I haven't been back to the US to pick up the new ones yet.
The most I have been able to withdraw with a foreign debit card has been 40k. I will try soon to see if this new 60k limit works. I didn't see in the articles when this was supposed to start working.

I just read this post on X. It says that the local bank raised limits for their local customers to 500k pesos! I assume it's just if you have an account there but the post said there is a rumor they will increase it for tourists. Does anyone have any information or experience? Can someone there that lives there see how much you can withdraw from a Banco La Nacion account? This would be helpful not having to deal with Western Union all the time.

This would be great news! I also have the Schwab card so would be good. I had the biggest withdrawals from BBVA. It let me take out 60,000 pesos each time. I am in BA in January so I will check out this ATM and see.

BBVA is letting their customers pull up to 800k at once, so there's that.

That is great news. So I guess there are plenty of pesos after all. Are you able to withdraw more than the usual 60,000 pesos now @Darksider415? Do you know when foreigners will be able to withdraw more from their foreign ATM cards?
My situation isn't the normal foreigner/expat one because I am a resident and have local accounts with BBVA and a couple of other banks, so I've been able to pull 100k+ for almost a year.

No idea when it'll catch up with foreign cards, though I could always run down to the bank a couple blocks over and try with one of my US cards.

That would be very kind of you! I have a friend coming down to BA from US and he doesn't want to have to carry more cash if he can withdraw more than $60 a pop. Only when you have time.

Same I never use my American debit cards. I just use my local cards. Also been pulling 100k out but did not know that BBVA allows you to take out 800k at a time. I have an account with BBVA too so I will have to try that. Thank you @Darksider415 for the heads up.

@Darksider415 thank you for your reports. My daughter that lives in the US is always asking me when they will increase the limits. She says Argentina is the only country in the world she travels where she can't withdraw larger amounts of money. What is the exchange rate you get on American bank debit cards? Is it the MEP rate like the credit card?

At least some Americans are still coming to Argentina. All my friends that came to visit me last year complain things are too expensive. They can go to Europe much cheaper and easier now.

@Darksider415 that would be terrific if you can check the maximum amount to withdraw from a US card if you have time. I am coming to BA next month and would love not to carry so much cash and mess around with Western Union. Last time Western Union had some lines so I would prefer to just use ATM card if possible.
