Newcomer Cost of Subte?

prince

New member
I have read a lot of information on where to get the Subte card, but no clear information about the cost. The same for Subte rides.
What is the cost for a Sube card and how much is each ride?
Do I have to bring my passport to buy the card?

The sube card ( work with subway , train and buses )

The card cost ARS 880 and can be bought in any subway station and kioscos.

Then you have to charge money on , in the same point you buy and almost anywhere ( stations , drugstores , loterys ,etc).

A subte ride now is ARS 80 and a bus ride ARS 52.96 minimum.

You will need your passport and personal information if you want to "register" your card online, but not to buy it.

Hello @prince ,

Here is a link with all the transport guide of Buenos Aires, I hope you find it useful!
Have a great stay here!

Look at Milei's crazy increase in Subte rates!

Make sure you register your Subte card for lower rates.

This is so dumb. Just handing a big win to CFK
Agree with you. These kind of whopping jumps up make no sense at all. They are not sustainable. Many people are already cheating and not paying because they are too high. People are starting to turn. Recession is still here. People are losing jobs. Pensioners are against Milei now. Students are turning against him and his approval ratings are going down and if this keeps up it will keep sinking.

I did not think CFK had a chance again but I did not think we would see these stupid moves.

Agree the price had to come up. Disagree with the amounts and percentages they are increasing them.
Yes. People are ok with fair changes but these kind of increase so quickly is going to make people turn. Already healthcare is going back up. Utility bill are crazy high. Many are behind on bills. Not going to end well.

This is what I think too. Just seems stupid to crank up the rates this much. Some of these people voted for him and now I know many that regret it now. They figured prices would come up but not these kind of increases. People expect to pay for their share but these kind of increases are going to drive these people away in the mid-term elections.

Yet another raise in the subway fares. The 5th raise and a crazy 846% higher than when Milei started.

The government is just trying to fix it as fast as they can. They probably realize that people will eventually get tired of these and catching up everything as fast as they can to fix the problems quicker.

That is the problem. He thinks he is fixing it but meanwhile poverty is shooting up and people are struggling to pay their bills.

At least in my circles, a clear delineator between those who are pro and against Milei is age... For those under about 35, my friends are overwhelmingly pro-Milei, to the point where I don't have any (known) friends who don't support him. For my friends who are older, attitudes are starting to cool, but it's still around half and half.

That is what I noticed too. All the young Porteños seem to overwhelmingly love Milei. I have mostly met younger people here and they also overwhelmingly are pro Milei. But the older people like the doorman in the Airbnb I am at are negative. I will ask some Uber drivers and all the foreign drivers support him. I think they are from Venezuela. But some of the taxi drivers that are older are complaining that things are getting expensive.

I guess we will need to watch the approval ratings. I was here last year and thought everything was cheap. It feels expensive compared to last year. Airbnbs are the same price but restaurants and cafes are much more expensive. I just got a haircut and the price has gone up.

Correct. For many of these younger citizens, they appreciate the fact that inflation is going down. People forget that last year we were on the path of total destruction. Supermarket shelves were empty with many essentials. There were shortages of gas. Runaway inflation. People want to complain now but if there is one thing I have learned since living here so long is people here love to complain.

Attitudes are cooling but that is to be expected. But if Massa was President there would be mass protests right now dealing with hyperinflation. This is the first time someone is trying to solve things.

It is a rush to solve things as fast as possible. When things have been broken this long you have to rip the bandaid off.

But how do they measure what is too much? If the majority of people are just jumping stalls and not paying anyway can they say it was good to raise them? Do they track with cameras how many are not paying? I saw some videos on X where people are walking a block down and then jumping up on the platforms. It looked like a lot of people.

I haven't been in BA for a few months but hearing 800% increases in price just sound extreme. Many people I met in Ba have been complaining to me about electricity rates jumping up. I can't figure out if they are exaggerating or they really that bad.
