Day trip to Uruguay..

Hi. My tourist permit is expiring soon. I am planning 3 days prior to the last day to go to Uruguay on a day trip by boat. Leave in the morning and return at night. Anyone have an opinion on this? Any issues with the border run? I have already extended once so this would be 180 days already. Thank you.

You shouldn't have any issues at all. I haven't heard of anyone having issues since President Milei got elected. I just don't believe that there will be any change at all. Argentina is eager to have people spending money here. You can overstay and pay a fine later. I know many people that do both. Overstay or do border runs. No one I know has had problems. Enjoy Uruguay.

Agree with @Betsy Ross. They might crack down in the future with some tourism from some countries. Some locals seem up in arms lately about some here in Argentina from some countries in Africa or other countries with some tension in Once but doubt you will have a problem. So many people here going back and forth on border runs or overstaying.

I do not know anyone personally that had a problem. I only read things online where someone was living here for a long time and overstayed and then came back and had a grumpy border agent but that is not normal.

@Oatmeal I wouldn't worry about this. I have been here over a year now with border runs over to Uruguay a few times and Brazil twice. I am not sure where you are from but the border guys couldn't have been nicer. I assume you're going over on Buquebus? I have some friends here and they are in the same situation. A couple friends just overstayed and paid a fine and also border runs to Uruguay and none had issues.

One of my friends didn't trust the cuevas here and had to get a bunch of dollars for a rental contract and he went to Uruguay and withdrew dollars from the ATM machines there so you might as well take the opportunity while you are there. All the ATM machines have dollars in them.

You going to Colonia or Montevideo?

I agree with the others on this thread. I have a ton of friends and clients that routinely do border runs and none have had any issues. This is a low priority for this administration to prevent tourists and foreigners to come to Argentina or even live here. I do think @Vince makes a good point that I think that in the future, some people from some countries could have issues in the future (Middle East, Africa, Caribbean, etc).

I personally know people that have been living here for 25 years just doing border runs and none had any problems. Not to say that could change in the future but it's not something that I would worry about.

Uruguay is an easy visit. I used to own a home in Punta del Este and go over there all the time. Just keep in mind Uruguay is an expensive place. Many of the restaurants there are the same price or more vs. USA. Colonia is small and not much to do but for a quick border run it's easy. I like Montevideo much more than Colonia but more for an overnight trip.

I agree about it being super expensive. My first time to Colonia I was surprised because I went to a nothing special restaurant and the prices were more expensive than the US! I don't get it but I guess the salaries are more expensive there. Besides a quick border run I thought Colonia was boring. Everyone I know said the same thing that it was overpriced and nothing to write home about.

Hello. An update. All good. Left for a day trip. Walked around and realized I was extemely bored and ended up taking an earlier departure time back to CABA (arrived around 2PM, ate some tacos and left at 430PM. No issues at all.

Trips to Uruguay are usually are not too exciting. Sounds like you just went to Colonia. Glad you did it without problems. It's simple crossing.

Never heard of anyone having problems doing border runs. Very easy.

How were prices there in Uruguay? Proabably expensive.
