Poverty has no limit in Argentina

Even though many graphs show favorable numbers, the middle class is still struggling and unable to recover. The most ironic part is that the middle class was the one that voted the most for Milei. While there are many who regret their choice, there are also plenty who believe they just need to hold on a little longer. However, they no longer consider themselves middle class; instead, they refer to their situation as "intermittent poverty.

Since Milei is the “chainsaw guy,” why doesn’t he use it on ambassador salaries, which are insanely high? It’s outrageous to know that Argentine ambassadors make over $20,000 USD in a country trying to emerge from an economic crisis, with local salaries barely reaching 900,000 pesos.

Although Argentina has become more expensive in dollars over the past year, and many sectors have lost competitiveness compared to other countries in the region, basic local foods are still cheaper with the official exchange rate. However, they are more expensive than in Brazil, with price gaps reaching up to 116% on some items. I think that’s one of the reasons why many foreigners are choosing to settle in Brazil right now.

Meanwhile poverty continues to get worse. This is a disaster situation!

Poverty situation is still bad. It will take some time to get things turned around but many organizations are saying poverty is now dropping not increasing.

Yes, several organizations including the one you are referencing at the beginning of this article @Avocado are all saying that poverty is trending down.

We track this data religiously and all are pointing to poverty falling.

I don't believe these numbers saying poverty is going down.

I am with you @Avocado on this one.

Inflation is slowing but still not down. Many services are still increasing way ahead of the ofciual inflation figures.

An I am sick of hearing that salaries are up in USD terms , when the government is holding back the FX rate .

I usually don't agree with you @Avocado but I am seeing far more people in the streets than before. I don't believe the numbers are going down. I know Milei didn't create all of this mess but do not believe poverty is going down.

Agree. What they did slowing down inflation is a positive but it is still high. When you account for real life expenses it is far above the official figures. The exchange rate is too far out of whack. The peso is overvalued. Once they adjust it inflation will also go back up.

That's really unfortunate and I sure hope they aren't making the same mistake as the US Democrats, which ignored any statistic that didn't fit their narrative and bashed economists that didn't toe the party line. They thought they could "message" people to death, tell them what to think, and distract with propaganda like diversity. They bought votes in ways never seen before. But the contrast with reality was too much, and most citizens have to face reality every day and feed their families.

You nailed the situation in the USA @CraigM. I kept telling my relatives the outcome of what was going to happen. To me it was very transparent what was going on. The news media kept telling the narrative about Kamala being ahead and also all the messages and talking points on the mainstream media with the same message.

I am back in BA after being gone for about 7 months in Europe. Poverty levels were high when I left and they are high now. I read a few reports that said poverty was falling but if it is it is not noticeable now. Maybe next year but now I think it is about the same or maybe slightly higher. I see more people digging through trash bins but that is normal for the past few years.

I got real sticker shock on my recent return. I don't know how people can try to argue inflation is not still going up. Slowed down? Yes maybe in some categories but in others it is still going up. Most of my friends that have dollar incomes are complaining. My Porteño friends that make pesos save their money in dollars and they are also complaining a lot. They like some of the changes but feel prices are too high.
