Newcomer Robbery in Palermo

I'd like to share my recent experience involving a robbery at a local convenience store owned by the popular "Chinos" in Argentina. While I was purchasing my monthly supplies, a group of young individuals entered the store. The cashier urgently instructed us to remain in place as they proceeded to rob the establishment. Once the culprits left, we all rushed to assist the cashier and promptly dialed 911. The police responded swiftly, arriving within 5 to 10 minutes of the call. The officers were both professional and friendly, attentively listening to our accounts and gathering descriptions of the perpetrators. At the conclusion of the incident, they heightened security measures in the vicinity to prevent future robberies.

In light of the discussions about security concerns in Argentina, I wanted to share this experience to reassure you that, in the event of an unfortunate incident, the Argentine police are prepared to respond promptly, offer support, and take preventive measures to ensure the safety of the community.

I'm glad everyone is ok. I've been going to Argentina for 22 years and lived there full time 9 years and I've never seen more police interactions than while my family and I were there in June and July. I saw 4 different police arresting people in the span of 24 hours. I never saw that before the entire time I have been going to Buenos Aires.

The good thing is the police seem to be very swift. One that I saw a group of people looked like they just took someone's cellphone and the police actually were all there and I saw a police officer driving on the wrong side of the road to get there. There were a swarm of cops. This was at Las Heras and Junin right by the Recoleta Village Mall area. They had arrested a group of 3 or 4 people.

I was a gun rights advocate in the USA but I am darn glad that they don't allow so many to carry guns here. It's very rare and I'm glad for it. Thank you for your service @StatusNomadicus as a police officer but I'd disagree that having more guns here in a good idea.

sure, it's the age-old argument of gun-free zones. and the mass-shootings that happen primarily in gun-free zones have debunked the idea. it's just something that is true, whether we want it to be true or not; criminals already break the law and carry guns, so gun-free zones and not allowing responsible law-abiding citizens to protect themselves is just an ostrich putting its head in the sand. the bad guys love it when they know their victims are unarmed. know how many robberies/violent crimes happen in gun stores and police substations? there's a certain level of crime found in places like Wyoming and Nebraska, versus NY and CA; criminals just aren't going to attack as much, because you really never know who is carrying.

there was just a video 2 weeks ago of an off-duty police officer in BsAs province getting his phone robbed at gunpoint. only reason he could defend himself was because he had a concealed pistol, though it was a big risk. but in the end, bad guys with guns only get stopped by good guys with guns, which is why you would call the police if Peronist rioters were breaking-down your door and saying they were going to stab you to death (you'd want the police to shoot the stabber).

I have lived in this country for a long time and I know several retired military personnel and some of them have been deprived of the right to bear arms. I hope that in the future the whole problem will be solved and the parties will come to an agreement in order to reach a common good with this issue.

You don't understand this country. Almost all your posts are wrong about Argentina. The last thing my country needs is more guns like YOUR country. Argentina is mostly safe even with very bad economy because we don't have many guns here. Please go back to your country soon with your bad idea.

I disagree with you. You are probably the only person that I heard of that thinks more guns in Argentina is a good idea or a good thing. Buenos Aires for a large metro area is very safe. Even with all this economic mess. Having not that many guns around is a large part of that. What crime there is here isn't violent here.

If the USA had the same economic mess that Argentina had, everyone would be shooting one another. Too many guns there. It's ok to disagree on guns but @StatusNomadicus you are going to be in the minority convincing people that more guns in Argentina is a good idea.

not Argentina; it's a universal principle...an unarmed populace will cause suffering over time, starting with minorities. who did Hitler disarm before the Holocaust? would the King have preferred the American Colonists in the 1700s have had more guns or less? did the 1970s genocide in Indonesia happen because the socialist victims were able to defend themselves against mobs?

i don't mind having a minority opinion; i exercise and eat clean, and i don't get experimental genetic vaccines, so i'm already different than over half of Westerners. but guess what: being obese is bad for you. exercise is necessary. yet people will tell you that Big Is Beautiful and that getting an mRNA 'vaccine' is okay because the CDC/Fauci said so. gun rights are the same; every person has an inherent right to self-defense, whether you find it scary or not. i've carried a pistol my entire adult life and it has never killed anyone. you'll find most ex-military and cops recommend people be self-sufficient...why do you think that is?

This crazy guy want more guns in Argentina like the USA. There are almost 400 million guns in the USA! About 46% of the worldwide total of civilian firearms only in USA! I read 121 guns for every 100 American residents! Now this crazy guy want the same for Argentina. Crazy.

i just want to be able to protect myself if someone starts shooting-up a school. i've carried a pistol for self-defense for my entire adult life 20s and 30s and i've never had an issue. responsible gun owners in the USA are some of the most respectful, kind, peaceful country folk in the world. don't let the commies try to convince you that pieces of metal and plastic are somehow evil.

No my family not like guns. I have many family all over Argentina and no one own guns. I think we can disagree the things but no need to use bad language. This forum not just for expats. I read it for everyone and all locals too. I read a post they might change name in future. I respect that you want gun in your own country but I still argue that guns not needed in Argentina.
