Politics Thread: President Javier Milei - From Decree of Necessity and Urgency (DNU) to Today

I am seeing people are starting to speak out against Milei and Caputo's economic plan. I just read that they fired Cavallo's daughter because her dad was speaking out against Milei. That seems petty.

Milei is a sob. This is the beginning of the end. It is clear that what they are doing with the bicycle financing is not going to work. It is making everything too expensive and going to eventually crash again. Experts are starting to speak out and now Milei and Caputo are fighting. Caputo will try to quit again like last time. People never learn. I have been saying this since the beginning.

Now this madman says the peso could go to 600 to $1. Before people thought he might be crazy but people are starting to realize that he is crazy.

Finally I have some friend that admit that things will not end up well. I have many friend from around world that come here and visit me. Spain, Italy, UK, USA, Australia, Portugal and they all say how expensive things are. Prices keep going up in restaurant. Beef prices keep going up.

All the school price keep going up. Medicines are expensive and increasing. All the utilities go up. Transportation is up. I think by end of this year people will see these policy not work.

Argentina’s Deregulation Minister takes the chainsaw to laws and government ministries

A race against time and still sounds like Argentina is a basketcase.
Great article in the Economist that talks about how President Milei deregulated the mate industry ending the National Institute of Yerba Mate's (yes that is a real thing) ability to set minimum prices

.Prices of mate dropped by more than 50% in real terms and consumers benefited by paying 30% less for mate.

The same thing happened before with Carlos Menem who got rid of the commission in 1991. There were artificially high prices that resulted in over-planting. A federal court has ordered the suspension of President Milei's deregulation for yerba mate.

As more industries are deregulated, prices should come down.

It turns out Milei is just another corrupt politician that is only looking out for himself to make $$$.

What a shame. I thought he wasn't corrupt and cared about Argentina. I don't know anything at all about crypto but I asked my brother who works on Wall Street and he said that Milei definitely had to be in on the scam or know about it.

Milei and his sister are crooks openly stealing. How stupid do they think people are. It funny now many friends that supported him before tell me I was right about him. And he steal before with the Coinx. This not he first time to do this. That is what happen with criminal. They do it once and nothing happen so they go bigger.

Now he try to bypass senate to name supreme court judges. This is not how thing work here. He more corrupt than any of past presidents. This not constitutional. It illegal. He trying to get judge friend to help him with his theft with Libra. Now maybe people are seeing true thief Milei.

See article in Financial Times about this.

One thing is for sure. Many people outside of Argentina's opinion of Milei changed after the Libra scam. Here in Spain many Spanish that supported him think he is just like other crooks in office. That was a terrible move what he did.

This move probably isn't a good idea either. It's unconstitutional. That is the danger of starting to do things that aren't legal. We criticize past administrations but it can't be ok when this administration does things that aren't legal.

Not only are Karina and her brother crooks but now she is ordering a press black out. There is no way Karina will make it the entire presidency. I hope people force her out.

I love how now people are questioning if Milei will even finish his term in office. He is a scam artist.

It's crazy how Trump and Milei cheated their own supporters. Nuts. They were dumb to fall for the dump and pump but crazy how Milei pumps it up and then blames his followers and said it's like going to the casino.

So much for that Nobel prize. Now he is blaming Massa for the blue dollar rate spiking and also blaming lawmakers for delays in achievements. You can't make this up.

Milei ruined his changes of winning any serious awards. Even this one is now being questioned.

Looks like Trump is going to turn American into Argentina! 🤣 In today's Wall Street Journal.

Trump Is Borrowing Argentina’s Chain Saw. America Will Suffer.

His fiscally laudable reforms have hurt. In February 2024, Mr. Milei more than doubled the price of bus and train ticket prices, while a utility price reform in June was estimated to hit middle-class families with a 155 percent rise in power bills. Unemployment rose from 5.7 percent to 6.9 percent between the third quarter of 2023 and the third quarter of 2024, and the percentage of the Argentine population living in poverty jumped 11 percentage points, peaking at over 50 percent in the first half of 2024.

For America, acting Argentine is not a good look. Argentina is a failing country that is just now turning the corner after carrying out painful reforms. If Mr. Trump were a true reformer, he would have presented specific budget goals, put seasoned technocrats in leading positions and focused on providing value-added technical innovation. Instead, he’s taking us on the Peronist path where power politics matters more than good policy. As Argentina teaches us, 100 years of misery could follow if the rule of law is replaced by the rule of one.

That is not the Wall Street Journal. This is the New York Times. Black and white.
