Banking What is going on with the Blue dollar? Why is it going down?

Milei is not a Libertarian anymore
pretty bold statement, considering he's done 95% of what he promised. end of Cepo, huge government deletions, auto registry upgrades, AFIP reduced, firing ñoquis constantly...

I never understood why he's intervening so heavily
speaking of, when gov'ts manipulate there are good black market and entrepreneurship possibilities - any of you oldtimers taking any action with these crazy rates? attached ambito.com rate screenshot as of 10:00 today 24Apr2025 - anything to do to hustle and make some money?

i'm asking because i saw @BowTiedMara mention crazy arbitrage opportunities - but what can a regular person who wants to make a buck, actually do?

i was using Santander's MEP instant convert to sell my USD for ARS as i needed to spend (Coto online requires an Argentine card, cash discounts, etc.) - but now it's in the 1100 range and the Blue Dollar is back to being advantageous - so what are you guys doing right now with such unknown Peso/Dollar rates? holding USD and just waiting to see? buying more USD with Pesos? spending in Dollars when you can? i was going to buy another heater but i can wait and hope for the rate to be advantageous for me, but no one knows what's going to happen it seems

Blue 1200 minus fees
MEP 1168 minus 7%

Yeah, honestly everything is so volatile right now that it's hard to make any solid plan. A lot of people are just holding on to their USD and waiting to see what happens, especially since the Blue Dollar is once again becoming more favorable. The MEP was great for a while, but now with the gap widening again, it’s risky.

Some are still doing small MEP conversions just for everyday spending, but most are trying to spend as little as possible in ARS and avoid converting unless absolutely necessary. If you can hold off on a purchase like the heater, that might be a smart move. Prices are jumping fast, and with elections and economic shifts coming, it’s all a big question mark. It’s kind of a wait-and-see game right now for everyone.

I asked my friend that very question there in BA and they said always hang on to dear dollars and not speculate. Unfortunately they are having to sell off their dollar savings to live.

The US dollar still is the best to hold for most people. Things are volatile and changing around. Most people aren't sophisticated and just hang on to dollars. I have been here a long time. Peso might get strong once in a while but always a good idea to hold on to dollars and just sell when you need to. With elections coming it could keep swinging around. Argentina hasn't solved any problems at all. Just got a big loan from the IMF. Still with the same problems.

I'm hanging on to dollars as usual.
