Where do undelivered letters go ?

If you live in an apartment building with no doorman, no where to put letters outside, and I'm not home in the day, where does my letter end up ? Talking about just a standard letter not a package or anything. Thanks for your help I'm desperate to recieve a document from home
If no one needs to sign for it sometimes they just leave it at the front of the door sticking in. Not the best but sometimes in my building when the doorman is on lunch break they just stick letters into the door.

@LyellLanatone does your building have a designated box that they building mail goes into? Some buildings have this. Mine where I used to live had a main box where the mailman would drop all the mail into.

This is why I like buildings with a portero. The post office is terrible in Argentina. Once I was expecting a credit card replacement and it was before I had my apartment and was at an Airbnb. The post office workers are lazy. Sometimes they won't even attempt to deliver it. Usually, if they can't deliver it they will leave a sticker that says they attempted delivery with instructions where to get it. But locals tell me that half the time they don't even leave these so maybe see your nearest Correo address.

When I was in BA walking around I saw a lot of buildings where they just stuck letters into the door or sometimes it was just on the floor of the building in front. I wondered how that was safe or if they actually were getting to the owners.

I also saw these joint boxes for buildings. Do all the owners in the building have keys to this box?

Funny in my Airbnb in Recoleta the mailman would just stick the bills in the building door. Then when people entered the building they would just leave stuff on a desk in the lobby but there was no doorman. I remember thinking not safe.
