I keep seeing old quotes from Milei from years ago about how he hated the IMF so much. Funny to see the flip flop. I guess that shows how desperate he is.
@Larry I think that you think Argentina is the only country that used to be affordable and now it isn't. That is how the United States is too for many people. We have also had a lot of inflation! Prices went up a ton after covid and never came down. At least in BA you have affordable rentals...
My friend is in BA for the past year. She is in a long term lease and pays the monthly condo fees. She reported it has jumped up a ton since she started but she said December jumped up a lot! Does anyone know if this is normal or anything special about December?
This is true @TonyTigre. I haven't checked out exchange rates in a while. The last time I did it was around 1000 to $1. Now I see it hit 1440 to $1 in 2 months. I guess it's time to visit Argentina again! I would assume that inflation will get bad again? None of the people I met there saved...
That is sad to hear about how bad the economy is but I think most locals blame the government not the tourists. Tourists help out the economy. I was surprised with how many expats were living in San Telmo. I think the difference is that many of the locals in San Telmo seemed more of the starving...
Many things are already changing there. My Porteño friend in BA is having all kinds of issues lately. She sells stuff online and was getting payments via Western Union for years with no issues. I don't think she was declaring the income to the tax authority there. Western Union was hassling all...
I thought Buenos Aires was one of the best cities for gays and lesbians. This is surprising to read about. All my lesbian friends love BA. They were surprised when I sent them this.
Reminds me of one of my dads friends. One of the smartest guys I ever met. But he always feels the need to use the F word and he is always using foul language and everyone automatically assumes the guy is an idiot. A shame too.
I don't know about Peru as a choice. It sounds like a lot of chaos there this past year. I flew through Lima earlier this year and everything was shut down. The police were even checking each Uber to get into the airport.
