Is the Expat party in Buenos Aires coming to an end?

Ah, the Argentine saga of nonsensical prices, where the nonchalant response is practically part of the national anthem. Let's stroll down memory lane, shall we? Under CFK's reign, the humble (and let's be honest, not stellar) cup of coffee once outpriced London, courtesy of some cosmic change...

Newcomer WTF is the deal with Pedestrians not having the right of way in Buenos Aires. I almost got killed today at a green light

In the realm of CABA, those traffic signals might as well be mere suggestions for the drivers. I've raised this concern multiple times during City government meetings, emphasizing the apparent disregard exhibited by drivers towards pedestrians. The response received, rather dishearteningly...

Politics Protests erupt in Argentina against President Javier Milei’s economic shock decree - Argentina Reports

Is it gonna get worse? Doesn't seem like it'll go too crazy. I've noticed that prices for things like beef and chicken are actually dropping 'cause people are buying less. Plus, more folks are checking out restaurant prices and bailing instead of eating out. It's like the market doing its thing...

Newcomer What are some good movies to watch on Netflix to learn Spanish and watch some of the local culture that feature Buenos Aires?

Awesome thread! Here is a list of the top 50 Argentine shows on Netflix: https://reelgood.com/tv/origin/argentina/on-netflix

Argentina President Milei alters Internet rules to make way for Elon Musk’s Starlink - Buenos Aires Times

I for one would be thrilled to see Starlink really come to Argentina. One never knows when these kind of things are posted. Elon is a showman and often times says he will do something and never does. Look at the many delays with his vehicles. My brother ordered a Cybertruck years ago and it...

Politics Thread: President Javier Milei - Decree of Necessity and Urgency (DNU) in real-time

It just sounds like chaos a bit with zero regulation at all. I know rental tenants that are so desperate to find something. I have some friends whose lease ends in January 2024 or February 2024 and they can't find anything. They are in Airbnbs now and paying nosebleed prices. A few friends...

Has anyone had to show their DNI or Passport while shopping at the Grocery Store in Buenos Aires?

Yeppers. It happened to me before. I just show them my ID from back home. Same deal. Expired and use it for everything. Almost no where asks me for an ID when they see I'm a yankee. I also took a photo of my passport (also expired) and keep it on my iPhone and that has always worked.

Sky-high inflation takes a toll on mental health in Argentina - AL JAZEERA

I take Ubers every day and take the same route and today the Uber was about 25% higher. I didn't see surge pricing. Any one else notice higher fares today?

Banking What is going on with the Blue dollar? Why is it going down?

I wanted Massa to win as well but I do NOT want to see this happening in Buenos Aires. I don't miss the piqueteros and I wish to avoid them at all costs. A few years ago I missed my flight to EZE as they were blocking the highway.

Newcomer Life in Buenos Aires after 1 month of living here as an expat

I wouldn't buy an older pre-existing apartment because I know people where the building has banned short-term rentals and some are implementing 6 month minimum leases which totally kills ROI. I would stick to new buildings that are set up as Airbnb short-term rental friendly in the HOA rules.

Travel Thinking about taking a Polar Expedition. Some questions about going to Antarctica

Thanks to you @Wayfinders for taking the time to post such great detailed information. I greatly appreciate it. I see you have an office in Buenos Aires. Could my wife and I come and talk to you in person?

Is the Expat party in Buenos Aires coming to an end?

I completely agree with you. The USA has gotten too expensive. They talk about inflation only being X% but it is a lie. I lived in California in Orange County and gas and food prices are crazy now. It was expensive over a decade ago when I lived there. Now there is NO way I could afford to...

Travel Thinking about taking a Polar Expedition. Some questions about going to Antarctica

After living in Argentina for many years, I'm finally thinking of taking a polar expedition to Antarctica. My wife mentioned a few times it was a life long dream to do it. I have a few questions if those of you that have done one, can let me know answers to my questions. I'd greatly...

Is the Expat party in Buenos Aires coming to an end?

I, too, realize that my perception of prices is outdated. I came across a roast chicken priced at 6500 pesos here, and my initial reaction was that it's almost comparable to the cost in the USA. However, a friend in the U.S. informed me that a similar chicken would now be $13. Admittedly, I...

Is the Expat party in Buenos Aires coming to an end?

It's a significant risk, and the probability of failure is high. Real change will only occur when individuals recognize that they are the architects of their own destinies, not the government. Relying on the government for anything is not the solution.

Is the Expat party in Buenos Aires coming to an end?

Well, majority rules in a democracy, but that doesn't mean they are correct. Often, they are wrong, as will probably be the case with putting Milei in power
