How can the food here be so bad ?

La Choza also is very good quality also. Great products. The milk at the store I mentioned is almost the same price at 2,650 pesos for a 1 L bottle. I think the quality is better.
Just so you know you can buy that milk at lower prices if you buy in bulk. Normally around 40,000 peso orders so it won't make sense for small families but my friends all order together and it is much cheaper as you can see from website. We pay 1,530 pesos per bottle.

Damn. Where were all these posts about great milk when I was in BA? :ROFLMAO: I had a few of those plastic bag milk and thought it was terrible. Or the boxed milk that wasn't refrigerated. I tried several brands and it was all terrible. Good to see that good milk exists in Buenos Aires!

Definitely it can't compare to the variety and quality in Europe. But try some of the organic stores. This is a good one that has very good quality milk. The store gets stock in on Tuesdays and usually it's sold out by Thursday so go early on Tuesday. The brand is Los Cerezos. It's top notch. They also have great organic vegetables there.

Thank you @Betsy Ross! I didn't know about this store. I will go immediately tomorrow!

Thank you @Betsy Ross! How much is the milk there? I've been ordering it on this website and it so far is the best I have found. Not bad at 2,600 pesos per liter bottle. The yogurts are pretty good too. The store is in Martinez but they will deliver on Wednesday's to Palermo/Recoleta.

Thank you for mentioning this place. I will also see about this place. This is very helpful. We are so surprised how milk here is so bad.

Thank you too @Avocado! We know enough families that can order together. That is big discount!

Both of these stores are very good organic stores. Just keep in mind the price is more than normal store but very good quality and good taste too.

I could have sure used this post when I was there. I got tired of eating out every night and tried to cook but some of the stuff at the grocery stores were not great quality. I'll check this place out when I come back.

I've tried to buy this La Choza brand for the past 2 weeks but no luck at all. :(

The food options here, in my opinion, are quite limited. I can't do pizza, pasta, empanada or milenesa every day and eating out has been quite expensive. That's why I cook almost every day. Beef panang curry, anyone? ;)

You sound like you are a good cook. Some of us are not talented in that department. Yes food here is limited and foreign food options just are not good and now too expensive.

Agree. I was surprised the Asian restaurants weren't better. The Chinatown there is quite large but many of the restaurants there were not good and lack of spices. Only so much pasta, empanadas and steaks one can eat.

I don't like to cook on vacation but if I moved there I would cook. Prices in restaurants look very expensive now. Eating out daily would add up.

Food quality here lately is suffering. Must be with restaurants using inferior and cheaper products trying to save money. Portions are also smaller. A disgrace compared to before.
I would agree with you @Larry. I noticed portion sizes are smaller. The past few weeks prices seem to be going up a lot in restaurants. Everyone is complaining lately and although they say inflation is slowing down it doesn't seem like it to me.

I posted while I was in BA. I didn't think the food was all that. People always say how great the steaks are there but I think they were overrated. I did go to Don Julio and it was good but I can get better at any steakhouse in Dallas. They way overcook steaks there. Almost to the point it is too well done. I ordered medium rare a few times and they overcooked it. I had to send it back once and they got angry at me. Strange how they overcook steak there in a country known to be good for steaks. Even when I ordered how I wanted they still overcooked it.

I don't think the food is as good as people in Argentina think it is. Pastas were good in some places. Pizzas were horrible to me. Sushi sucked besides Osaka and was expensive. Surprised the seafood there was so bad. I went to Chinatown and the food there wasn't good either.

I like steak here but agree they overcook it here!

Much of the food here has no taste or any spices in it. Very bland. The bread is very hard here. Hard to find good bread and even some of the good bakeries now have stale bread. Not sure if they are selling less. Things are also not fried here well. Most places have horrible french fries.

Oh boy, it's taken me a long time to get used to Argentine food and I went through the full 5 stages of grief regarding the culinary desert that is local cuisine. People here think their food is better than it is. Not sure why. I had a fight with a friend here who claims Argentina has the best pizza in the world. Most places are terrible with way too much cheese.

People say the food is terrible here in the US but I disagree. Food is flavorful for the most part at most places in America. Here food is very bland. And now bland and expensive!

Yum! That is one thing that I am looking forward to moving back to the States. Tons of delicious Asian food in NYC and of course the best pizza in the world. NYC indisputably has the best pizza in the world.

I understand your point of view, but I have to disagree a bit about Argentine food. Sure, it can be different from what you’re used to, but many people here cook at home every day. Dishes like guiso, estofado, zapallitos rellenos, pastel de papa, and albóndigas with puré and sauce are very flavorful and made with fresh ingredients.

In the U.S., a lot of processed foods can be pretty bland, and many people rely on takeout or fast food, which doesn’t always represent the best of American cuisine. Here in Argentina, home-cooked meals reflect the local culinary traditions and are really important.

Plus, every country has its own food culture. If you try to eat like you did back home, you might be setting yourself up for disappointment. Also, the U.S. currently has the highest obesity rates in the world, and let me tell you, that’s due to eating patterns. I won’t deny that American food has its charm, but honestly, I don’t miss it here.

If there’s one thing I don’t miss at all, it’s the fast food from the U.S. Haha, I’ve really gotten used to the food here, everything has such a homemade taste! I’ve even learned how to make some of my favorite dishes, like lentil stew. I only miss a few American snacks since I’ve got a big sweet tooth!

It always depends on the perspective from which you look at it. The food in Argentina and the U.S. each has its own characteristics and appeal, but Argentine food, which is more focused on fresh ingredients and homemade dishes, tends to be healthier overall. In Argentina, the culture of cooking at home and enjoying traditional meals like stews and asados can provide more balanced options.

Meanwhile, in the U.S., the prevalence of fast food and processed foods contributes to less healthy eating habits, which is reflected in the high obesity rate. So, when it comes to health and quality of ingredients, many might prefer Argentine cuisine. However, personal choice and taste always play an important role, so I don’t judge anyone, there’s no accounting for taste! :)

That lentil stew looks delicious! It’s also one of my favorite dishes, and the asado here is unbeatable. Although I have to admit, sometimes I do miss the fast food from the U.S. 😅

Agree with you about the pizza. There are a few places that are decent here but over all they use too much cheese. Most of my American friends or family that come down don't really like the pizza here with a few exceptions.

What I agree has gone downhill is the beef. It used to mostly be grass fed and higher quality but quality has gone downhill.

Actually I'd disagree with you. Fast food is one of the things that I miss the most. US has a lot of great fast food places. Not to eat everyday but always nice to get some tasty fast food.

I never ordered Milanesa here because a couple of times that I did, it was always dry. I never liked empanadas so much until probably this past year that I found one or two places that make them better than what I previously had but each empanada or canastita costs around 2000-3000 pesos and that is rather expensive. Where I come from we eat extreme flavors (think ceviche with loads of very spicy chilis) so pretty much everything here is bland for me :ROFLMAO: That's why I cook almost every day. I say almost because once in a while I get tired of cooking and have to eat out. This photo was dinner last night 😋
