Largest Immigrant Groups in Argentina over the years 1820-2023

Thanks for sharing. I was amazed on my trip that many of the locals all look very European.

Can I ask where you were based? Because true in a small pocket of Palermo it's around 50 % "European" but go literally anywhere else and it's a struggle to find anyone not obviously from Peru / Bolivia / Venezuela heritage

I don't think it's right to visit a city of tens of millions inhabitants, stay within a small 10 square block radius and then claim you know anything about that city.

I think many people are surprised when they come to BA. I know many of my friends are. You travel all around South America and you see more Latino looking in many countries. Besides Uruguay which is similar to Argentina in most of my travels it is more of the Latino look.

There are a lot of other South Americans here that you will see but if you stay in Recoleta or Palermo you might not see as much of it. It is a bubble. While I did see several that were clearly from other parts of South America I noticed it more in less affluent areas like San Telmo. I noticed a lot more in San Telmo and I went to a big mall I can't remember which neighborhood it was. It was big and there were a lot in that area too. Especially selling stuff outside on the street.

What area are you mostly in @MickMolloy?

Sounds like you were at the Abasto shopping mall

I am American. We stayed in Recoleta at the Park Hyatt hotel. It was very nice. I will admit that we did not venture around too much besides going out to eat. My husband was going down for work and we did the normal touristy things. Mostly spent time in Recoleta which I did not see many Bolivians or Peruvian looking immigrants. One time we took an Uber and the nice man was from Venezuela but my husband's company had a car service so we had our own driver almost our entire trip.

I did see many in San Telmo but that was really the only area. We spent most of our time in Recoleta and Palermo. I am not claiming to know much about BA. Just stating that I was surprised it was almost like going to Europe.

.... Yuh that explains it lol. What percentage of Argentines you think can afford to stay at the park hyatte in recoleta about 0.00000001 %.

It's like looking at the white guy who tried to visit the Titanic wreck in his sub and saying damn why do all white people have to go diving in their fibreglass submarines to the titanic every week

Because around that area every square inch of footpath was taken up by people selling stuff until about 3 months ago when the AFP ordered a crackdown. Now the footpaths are empty
It is a remarkable difference. Same as in other areas where the locals living there finally have some peace and quiet. Big improvement!
