What happens if Argentina gets too expensive? What are alternative cities/countries to move to when it's overpriced in Argentina?

Other cities are much cheaper. Night and day. BA is the big city and always more expensive. Even within BA prices are much different depending on how touristy the area is.

There was a good post on X by a poster who posted about low cost of living where he lives.

As @Finance Prof said @StatusNomadicus posts on this forum but looks like it's been a while since he has. If you're still around big congratulations on the house purchase, and any updates on your residency status??

Exactly as you say @Darksider415. I live over in Recoleta and although there are some big hotels it has a different feel to it and I don't feel overrun with expats. I feel like every time I go into Soho it feels so touristy to me. I stopped going to restaurants there. Once in a while on the weekends I will go walk around but once you live here a while you don't have the desire or need to go there. Impuesto Palermo is a real thing.

When I have friends in town I will take them there and San Telmo but it is like San Telmo. I rarely go there either. I guess eventually maybe all the areas outside of Palermo will gentrify and get more touristy but enjoying it before it gets like that.
Are prices there in Recoleta comparable to Palermo? And if so anyone in those areas trekking outside those spots and how far to do their shopping?.

Do any of you longtimers in BA miss the corrupt and inept Presidents? I was talking to an expat today and he said that he missed Alberto Fernandez and said his life was much easier (and cheaper) with the blue dollar. I thought this was selfish but then realized that most people just want the best situation for them. What do you all think?
I very much miss anyone that is not Milei. The people he surrounds himself with are the same exact people that got us in this mess in the first place with Macri. Macri has a great role in the mess Argentina is in taking on all of this debt on. Almost all my friends now are suffering having to sell their savings to survive. If this keeps up then I would say by the elections it will be very bad for Milei. It is beautiful that he is already fighting with his VP. A beautiful thing to see.

Yes any neighborhood is cheaper than parts of Palermo. Soho and Hollywood have the highest prices as that is where all the tourists are at.I am always surprised the prices they charge. Stores are pricing towards tourists and gringos. Recoleta is less expensive. Most people do their shopping at larger supermarkets away from touristy parts of Palermo to save money. Also it depends where there are good deals and specials. More people now depend on the discounts with Coto or digital apps.

Exactly! Nowadays, many people rely on promotions to get the best prices. It's no longer a problem to walk a little farther to find good deals. Discounts from supermarkets like Coto or digital apps have become essential for saving money, and people take full advantage of those promotions. According to this article, Coto has the best discounts, so I’ll go this week to check it out. Also, there are so many options outside the touristy areas that, if you know where to look, you can find great prices without paying the high rates of places like Palermo.

I like Carrefour for a lot of my shopping, since I get 25% off using my BBVA Visa with MODO on Saturdays, and Dia for a bit of the rest because 20% Mercado Pago discount on Wednesdays.

Whatever's leftover after those two, I use my Club La Nación discount with COTO.
Same! I was just mentioning about this in another thread. It is amazing some of these 25% to 30% off deals with different banks and love MODO on Saturdays. I do the exact same thing as you @Darksider415 with Club La Nacion discount too. I really love Coto. That is probably the one I go to the most. Those savings really add up. Most locals I know also are shopping around with their discount days and Modo.

Absolutely there is a difference in prices from Soho to Recoleta. I own apartments in both Palermo Hollywood and also Recoleta and I love the Coto in Recoleta and the prices are less there. Soho and Hollywood are very touristy.

Yep, those discount bank promos really add up. I posted about Modo when it came out and those savings really add up!

What I noticed is that after inflation has been terrible all year many restaurants have stopped raising prices are just a little. Some have actually rolled prices back down. My friend sent me this the other day and very decent prices on milanesas and bife de chorizo. Not a fancy place but if you avoid touristy Palermo you can get lower priced meals. This place he said everything has come down on prices the past month.

That still looks really cheap to me! Food felt like it was free last year. Cheaper than this but this is a meal for 4 people! And it's only $50 bucks. That pizza says 6,000 pesos. A friend is there now and told me some places have $20 dollar pizzas so prices drastically different between areas it seems like.

I am going next month and can't wait to check it out.

@Darksider415 do they check ID at all? For example can I use my partners credit cards or app to get discounts if my partner isn't with me? I don't have a DNI yet so I don't take advantage of these sales but could I use his?

I wish people would stop paying those places that have $5 coffee in Palermo. If people stopped paying those prices they would bring down prices. No way they aren’t making tons of money charging those fees.

Agree with you Dark about balance. Prices were very cheap last year but it can’t go from too cheap to too expensive this quickly. It’s not healthy to be this expensive.
Agree about stopping to buy those nutso prices for coffees in Palermo. Once people stop paying it they will lower prices. Can't tell me they need to be charging that. Everything here is cheaper than the US. Real estate, rentals, labor. The only thing is coffee might be a little more but they could be charging less. It is just that people are willing to pay it. They will charge that as long as people continue paying. Other places around BA are reasonable.

That type of gringo that comes here saying how things should be and angry at many usually don't make it long on forums. It sounded like he was on the run from the States with the law or IRS as he said he was purposely not paying taxes so maybe he got caught. He was always very angry and using fowl language with everyone. Or maybe he bought a gun and ran into the wrong person.
