Banking What is going on with the Blue dollar? Why is it going down?

I am love love loving to see the blue go up every day this week. Finally! It was falling for the past few months but glad to see it going up now. I'm coming next month and dollar is going to go further. I hope it goes above 1,300 soon. I ask my local friends I met what it should be trading. it realistically and they all tell me much higher than 1,500 to $1. Some told me 2000 pesos to $1 !
The BRL hit 6.28 to $1 today! Down almost 3% just today alone. 30% down YTD. Something tells me Brazil is going to get a lot of tourists.

The Argentine peso is SO overvalued. It is a total joke. This economist is sounding the alarm.

Everyone has been saying that all year but when is it going to change? I got 1500 pesos to $1 in July and now only 1125. The dollar has gotten stronger in almost every other currency except Argentina.

It does not make sense to me. Maybe if things improved a lot and there were no issues but as far as I can see Argentina still has ALL the debt and getting ready to take on more debit with IMF.

Doesn't make sense to have a peso this strong. Tourism is falling, exports are going to fall too. Why would someone buy from Argentina when they can buy from Brazil much cheaper! Everyone knows it is not reasonable to have a peso this strong. Exporters aren't going to compete. My friends that lived through the $1:1 days tell me it's even more expensive now vs. then.

Everywhere I read online even from international magazines or newspapers they all say the peso is overvalued. Locals are in denial as I read on X some people saying the Argentine peso should be very very strong. Makes no sense to me. My costs here have bone up a lot. When Trump won the USD went up everywhere! Except here.

This seems like dejavue from before when Trump was President and Macri was President. Caputo was also the Minister of Finance! Brazil was devaluing then too and now they are. Scary coincidences. Things didn't end up well for Argentina then. How is the government not commenting on how overvalued the peso is? Mieli is supposed to be some economist. How can he not see this. I think it blows up again.

The blue dollar is way way overinflated.

One of my close friends went to Ichisou for dinner. I was shocked when he sent me a photo of his receipt. He said that a few years ago he paid $17 USD for a dish and today it is $71 USD!! $71 for a sashimi plate. The dollar is artificially high!

Never heard of this place. I just looked at it online and found the IG page.

Is this place good? I went to Osaka and it was also expensive. How long ago was it that cheap?

The Google reviews sound good for this place. I tried a few sushi places but there were terrible! I went to one in Chinatown and it was terrible! I thought the seafood was good at La Mar but the sushi there was terrible too. @Larry how long ago was it only $17??! How big is the portion? How many pieces? How many people are eating for that $130 bucks? I spent $100 for myself at Osaka.

Ichisou is excellent. Very good quality. I go there all the time. Prices haven't been that cheap for a long time. I'm not sure what year they are referencing but it definitely isn't last year. Even last year the prices weren't that low. That is probably their huge sashimi plate which has about 30 pieces. Prices have NOT been anywhere near the prices Larry is quoting for years. Try getting a platter like that in States for anywhere near that price. It is not fair to talk about prices many years ago. That is just strange. I get comparing prices to last year but do not think it's reasonable to compare to many years ago.

I actually agree with you Larry that the dollar is artificially low now. But what price do you think it should be?

The place is very good. Many of us can't afford to go to Osaka. This is much more affordable. No frills but good food.
Osaka isn't for normal people living here. It's all tourists or rich locals.

Yes you are right. He said it was the 30 piece plate. I will ask him how long ago it was that low. I have never ordered a 30 piece plate here. The peso should be at least 2,000 pesos to the dollar.

Thank you @Vince! I will try it out next month. I hope it is open. I heard some places close the entire month while owners go on vacation. That was surprising to hear. I heard it is very hot and humid. I hope the mosquitos will not be too bad.

Nice action on the blue dollar today going up to 1,120 to $1 USD. What do you expats prefer? For the economy not to improve and your blue dollar to be high? Supporting Milei seems counter intuitive for you to have a higher blue dollar rate. My family here all has dollar savings and say although they are glad top see things improve they preferred the strong blue dollar. But some are seeing we will see a strong blue dollar no matter what later. I'm not sure what to believe.
I am back in BA and boy is it more expensive than the last time I was here! At least the exchange rate has gone up a little. I saw my old post from earlier this year and the exchange rate was 1,120 and now it is 1,215 to $1. But prices are much higher now!

I have been here before and it is very good. Great sushi in any major city is not going to be cheap. I don't know why people expect Buenos Aires to be an exception.

I think it’s best to combine both. Personally, I use my credit card for everyday expenses when the MEP and Blue rates are close, it saves the hassle of exchanging cash. But it’s always smart to keep some physical dollars as a backup for emergencies or big purchases since cash remains crucial in such a volatile economy. Just to give you an idea, today I exchanged some dollars and got 1,190 ARS per dollar, but now it’s already at 1,230. That shows just how unpredictable things can be!...In fact, there’s currently a slightly more significant difference between the Blue and MEP rates, which makes it even more unpredictable.
