Help! I'm getting married to an Argentine and have my permanent resident interview after marriage. What evidence is needed?

Hi @Jakoval,

Did you pay the expedite fee? My DH said he paid some expedite fee. I didn't take this to mean a bribe. But maybe it was! Ha! He said there was some expedite fee that he paid when we applied. Where did you apply? Maybe this has to do with speed. Our case was done in Moreno which is about 35 km from Capital so maybe it is quicker here. I don't know. Also, my friend that is lawyer told me if you are missing ANY part of the required it slow down many months. It kicks it out and you have to wait at bottom of a stack so it's VERY important to have ALL what they ask. That speeds things up a lot.

At least you have your interview. Is your interview in person? I forgot to mention they also ask how much money we make and to show it so maybe be prepared for that. Also if you have property or if not then rental contract, etc. Good luck. It's very easy.
Yup, we paid the expedite fee but this was in CABA. I suppose it's faster in Moreno.
Regarding the citizenship process, not sure if you already know this but you can start the process right after you get married like the next day because PR and ciudadania are two separate organizations and you can process them simultaneously. I started ciudadania and it seems to be going faster than my PR so I thought I might have ciudadania before my DNI had I not been contacted for the interview last week :ROFLMAO:

Oh wow! I did NOT know this. Keep us posted how everything goes. The whole situation is frustrating. We ask different people or lawyers and we even get different answers.

I forgot to mention. When they emailed me to scheduled the interview, they also requested additional documents: acta de matrimonio (already given since the first time we went to migraciones but oh well), DNI of my spouse, certificado de domicilio and Solvencia Económica del grupo familiar (declaración jurada de ingresos económicos o monotributo). After I sent everything to them, they emailed me back the next day with the interview schedule.

I was also curious if this out-of-nowhere email (after a few months of silence) to schedule my interview was triggered by the oficio sent from juzgado to request my border entry/exit information with immigration office (during your ciudadania process, juzgado will request your info from different departments such as migraciones, reincidencia, interpol etc and you can track it online where you are in the process). I mean the interview comes around the same time juzgado requested my info. It could be a coincidence but who knows?

This is great info. I don't think anything is set and stone and organized. It almost seems like if a particular officer working on it is feeling like working that day then you get the luck of the draw but many in government offices don't really want to work and let's it pile up. My friend that works in a government office said that Milei is doing efficiency checks to see how productive workers are so I have a feeling everything will start getting more efficient or at least the workers or if not they will get fired.

Thank you for this data point. It is very helpful to get real life information of people going through the same thing. My friend that is going through the same thing is all different and same as the people she knows. I don't think it is like in a normal country where time frames are the same. It also seems like there is no real organization and even if you already submit something they have an organized system. My friend had the same experience as you having to resubmit her marriage certificate. She had the same thing where she had to send the monotributo paperwork but once she submitted it she got the interview date.

Interesting to see about the juzgado to request your border entry/exit information with immigration. I heard a rumor they actually check but to be honest since they don't really care about overstaying and able to pay an exit fine I didn't think they would check but interesting that they check. I haven't talk to anyone that got rejected. It just sounds like the luck of the draw how efficient they are. Thank you so much for sharing info.

You are probably like me, you know it will go fine but the stressful part is the waiting and not really know if things are moving along. Good luck!

Huge thanks for sharing info. I wonder why they request things that you already sent. That must be frustrating to have to send the same info. Did you get discouraged when you saw they were asking for the same thing?

Are you nervous at all about your interview? I know you shouldn't be but I was very nervous even after they told me all was ok! This is Argentina after all and nothing seems like it will work well but in the end it did. Thanks for all the info! Seems like not many people are willing to share info on this.

I'm not that nervous because I've been in a relationship with my spouse for more than 10 years. I know and met most of his family members. We traveled together internationally all the time. We shall see. I'll report back how it goes. Fingers crossed!

Congratulations on 10 years of marriage! You shouldn't have any issues at all. I know things are very slow and inefficient here but I've never hears of any legitimate marriages getting rejected. The most difficult part is the waiting. Let us know how it goes! Congrats on progress to date!

The relationship is more than years but the marriage is still young, only a few months old :ROFLMAO:
@Esposas @Faith @Fingerless
Anyway, the interview went well. They interviewed us together and it lasted about 40 minutes. It actually didn't feel so much like an interview at all. Everything was chill and felt as if I was sharing my love/life story with a new person whom I had just met at a bar or something. The interviewer was also very nice and friendly.

Basically, they just asked when and how we met, if we know each other's family, if we have traveled together, where I was living when I first came here, the address of our apartment, what my spouse does for a living, what I did before and what I do now etc. Since our relationship is more than 10 years, we just told the story truthfully and sequentially as they asked.

They did tell us at the end that everything went fine and they just need to upload everything into the system either today or tomorrow. After that it's up to whoever has the authority to sign and finalize the process and I suppose my DNI will be sent. We shall see how long it will take.

This is wonderful news! I'm there in January. We will have to celebrate with a delicious home cooked Thai meal! Ha, ha. Or some juicy steaks. Seriously, congratulations. I have had permanent residency for so long in Argentina that I almost take it for granted. 2 of my kids were born there and have passports. I too can get my passport there and probably will sooner rather than later. But I have so much going on now.

@Jakoval I am so happy for you and your spouse!

Has your status hasn't changed from 'tramite en proceso de provision' to 'disposicion de residencia protocolizada'?

@Faith Mine hasn't changed either. Oh well. What can we do but wait 🙁
Did they give you any time line or time frame @Jakoval? Do you know if we can call or go to the office to inquire? My husband said to just be patient and wait. I know it doesn't change anything to check online every hour! Ha. But I'm doing it anyway. I'm not sure why I'm so anxious to get it. But after such a long process I just feel like some how Argentina will manage to screw things up. I know I shouldn't think that way but I am so accustomed to inefficiency.

i think i saw a couple in the American Embassy getting asked similar things; it was a mediocre-looking guy in his 30s, and a smokeshow 20-yo latina chick, so not sure if they were extra cautious, or every country is at least taking the steps to say they don't allow Contract Marriages
Yes before I don't think they asked much but I think with the poor economy here in Argentina there are definitely some arranged marriages going on. I heard the going rate was $10,000 USD but I'm not sure.

@Faith No they couldn't specify the timeframe as to how long it might take. All they said was everything went fine. Luckily, this was the last step.

Thank you!! Yes, thank God this is the last step! Please if you can post when your status changes and I will do the same. My husband said that the holiday it delays things. But that isn't scientific! He always says things as if they are facts! Ha.

I'll let you know the minute my status changes. I don't think 'scientific' can be used with Argentina especially when it comes to bureaucracy :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:
