What happens if Argentina gets too expensive? What are alternative cities/countries to move to when it's overpriced in Argentina?

Buenos Aires remains an attractive city, but its profitability and advantages for foreigners/expats have diminished in recent years due to an unstable economy and social and political changes that impact the cost of living and financial opportunities. I even have a friend who owns an apartment here and rents it out through Airbnb, and it no longer seems like a good business to him, he’s even considering selling it. Let’s hope the economy recovers soon.

BA is nuts compared to last year. Admit prices were crazy cheap then but I am surprised how expensive it is now. Just about everything is much more now. Restaurants are expensive. Everything is double from last year. I hope prices don't get more expensive but economy looks to be improving and salaries are going up. I am just afraid it goes back to the 1 to $1 days in the 90s.

Still worth it but we are heading to USA prices here.

Prices are absolutely crazy in BA. I just got back from Spain and prices are cheaper there for quality food in restaurants. This is the most expensive I have seen it here. Almost $17 US for eggs, bacon and toast. These kind of prices are now more expensive vs. Europe and States.

$37 USD for breakfast, 2 coffees, and an orange juice. Just nuts.

That's what I'm spending in Europe for a meal + 1 cup of wine in a nice restaurant.

I'm a foreigner and if anything my standard of living has improved since coming to live here permanently 16 years ago. Now that the K regime has been sussed out things can only get better. Onwards and upwards I say. 👍

Yes this is significantly more than I spent when I was in BA but prices look like they keep getting more and more expensive in USD terms. How bad will it get?

But I assume your cost of living has gone up if you're savings or income is in dollars?

I went to this place a few times to eat breakfast. Nice place in Palermo Chico. Wow prices are really moving up. The food portion you will spend that in the USA. Coffee here is still more but the rest of those prices is about the same now.

Only difference is salaries in BA are far less than in Europe so something has to give. It looks like salaries have gone up a bit but not as much as some of these prices I am seeing at restaurants. I see people posting about 30,000 peso steak sandwiches in BA.

That is good you stay positive. I think over the long period those with foreign incomes can still live well in Argentina but those with peso salaries are hurting on things like dining out at restaurant. No way that the majority can afford to go to restaurants.

I read online of many expats complaining about the cost of living now with the inflated peso there.

Paying almost $40 dollars for a few eggs, licuado, juice and 2 coffees is crazy. This is what I figured would happen. It got very expensive in the 1:1 days. Argentina was very expensive for many years and this probably is what is going to happen again. Here in Spain food is cheap. Glad we got out when we did. I am coming back for Christmas so it will be a lot of sticker shock in going out to eat in Buenos Aires.

I have to admit prices at a lot of restaurants now in BA are nuts. I don't want to hear people say it is still ok compared to back home. This isn't USA or Europe but the prices now are like back home. Salaries are not comparable.

Meanwhile, the dollar keeps dropping...

Interesting. Against all G7 currencies the dollar is actually up a lot the past few weeks. Shows you how strong the Peso has been, despite almost every prediction to the contrary.

Almost every single day there is more and more good news for Argentina. There are literally announcements every day which bodes well for Argentina's future. Even President Trump is going to copy President Milei's model of cutting government and controlling spending.

Even if she loses the appeal, she won't go to prison as she is over 70 yo.

It will be an anklet and forced to stay at home.
A shame. It would be beautiful to see her go to jail. Even if it were for a short amount of time.

We will see if this keeps up. The carry trade is supporting the peso but we will see how the peso performs next year but this time could be different because Argentina has never had a Milei.

Argentina could get more expensive if so. Companies are at a limit. I am not sure if they can keep up with these wage increases. People are tapped out. Salary increases are just matching inflation.

This is true. I joke with my wife that we are leaving Argentina at a good time because soon it will be more expensive vs. States.

True Vince. Argentina in dollars is expensive. Not quite like home but will be soon. People talk about slowing inflation but prices are still going up and a lot more than 2%! Healthcare premiums keep going up at about 6% per month. My condo bill and utilities are way up too. Forget about eating out much now.

Restaurants are feeling the pinch. I started seeing a few places start charging 10% to 12% to use a credit card now. They are barely getting by.
