'Justification of dictatorship': outcry as Milei rewrites Argentina history

Thank you for providing additional context; it certainly helps to clarify the situation. Engaging in debates over specific victim counts creates the impression of attempting to either justify or downplay the severity of the violence. It would be more constructive for them to acknowledge the...

Legal Terror sequence for a family: a truck chased them and crashed into them in the middle of Route 7 after a traffic argument.

The driver had so many chances to de-escalate. I didn't know Pepper stray was illegal in Argentina. I brought some down from the USA the last trip. But here it says you are right. https://vertoeducation.org/wp-content/uploads/Buenos-Aires-Packing-List.pdf

People rarely report robberies to the police. Police sometimes are worse than the criminals

Same here. All my local friends told me when I was first here to avoid the police. Once someone steals your item you ain't getting it back anyway. I can't see any reason to talk to the police.

Favorite neighborhoods for Expats to live in Buenos Aires? With the best vibe and characteristics for me?

Agreed! I also don't like San Telmo. I never was crazy about this area but lately it's just touristy and in addition to the tango dancers and backpackers it is crowded with tourists too everyday not just Sunday. Feels seedy at night. I agree Recoleta or parts of Palermo are very nice...

Worst things about Buenos Aires besides dog poop?

Agreed. I think it is perfectly fine for people to list things they don't like about Buenos Aires. I actually agree with all of these things. Not saying other cities don't also have it bad. I don't think that is the point of this thread. I can't add to this list. It seems like most of the...

Newcomer What is the current status of the Cartoneros?

Yes they typically are out at night. They are very harmless and mind their own business and just trying to survive. It is much better now as they used to just go through bags on the street. Now they can go in the recycle bins that are conveniently on each street.

Medical Healthcare medical monthly premiums are going to get increased!

Rates are skyrocketing. My last bill was 178,000 pesos. That is before the next 30%+ increase that they said February will be. I have OSDE 410 plan. When I first got it a few years ago it started out at 32,000 pesos. I can't even remember what the exchange rate was back then to be fair.

Economy Dollarization of Argentina 101 - Can we agree on what it means and how it would be accomplished?

First, how will we get the money to make this happen? And second, will the legal system allow it? These seem like the big challenges for dollarization. Plus, there's a chance the dollar might not stay strong, causing prices to go up. I'm also worried about having to follow the rules of U.S...

President Javier Milei of Argentina lives in a 4 Star Hotel wasting the taxpayers money

Hold onto your hat because here's the kicker – some of these government employees, you know, the ones doing the ol' "government jobs" dance, are raking in way more than $500 a month. It's like they stumbled upon a hidden treasure chest while the rest of us are still figuring out how to open the...

Price of Beef will skyrocket at Parillas and steak restaurants! Good time to become a vegeterian!

So, here's the scoop – folks mostly voted with a side of fury, you know, the whole emotion buffet, not exactly a gourmet reason feast. Fair enough, they've got a right to be mad, and Milei rode that anger wave like a surfing champion. Now, though, it's bill-paying time for all those dishes that...

Newcomer WTF is the deal with Pedestrians not having the right of way in Buenos Aires. I almost got killed today at a green light

Oh, of course! The missing seat belts must be playing hide-and-seek, cleverly tucked between the seats, or maybe they're just on vacation. Because everyone knows that brand new cars always come with seat belts – it's a feature, not a bug. And oh, the thrill of driving in the interior! The...

Any guesses where we think the Blue dollar exchange rate will head in 2024?

Ah, the thrilling suspense of the economic rollercoaster! Will supply and demand take center stage, or will we witness a plot twist that leaves us all on the edge of our seats? Let's stay tuned to see what happens. As the curtain rises on this economic drama, healthcare and rent emerge as the...

Any guesses where we think the Blue dollar exchange rate will head in 2024?

Absolutely agree. The prospect of Milei securing approval for the elimination of the peso and the subsequent dollarization of Argentina's economy seems highly doubtful. Such a monumental shift requires not only intricate planning but also widespread consensus, which, in the current landscape...

Politics The Argentine Government resigned from the BRICS through a letter sent by President Javier Milei - CNN

India and China have maintained robust business ties with Russia, seemingly unfazed by Western sanctions. This trend extends to numerous Asian and Arab nations, which often prioritize their strategic and economic interests over strict adherence to Western policies. The influence of the United...

Politics The Argentine Government resigned from the BRICS through a letter sent by President Javier Milei - CNN

Oh, you're in for a treat, my friend! The sheer abundance of BRICS greatness is like trying to fit an elephant into a clown car – too much to squeeze into this tiny space. Just do yourself a favor and embark on a quest through the vastness of a Google Search. I think @StatusNomadicus has shown...

What happens if Argentina gets too expensive? What are alternative cities/countries to move to when it's overpriced in Argentina?

Or another option is NONE OF THE ABOVE. Alright, listen up, folks! So, I've been rocking this part-time gig since way back in 2003. Yeah, I'm practically a time-traveling part-timer. I've surfed the waves of part-time life, from the lows that make you question your choices to the highs that...

Medical Healthcare medical monthly premiums are going to get increased!

Ah, the fond memories of my grand entrance into Argentina back in the golden year of 2014. Picture this: I wake up one fine day, feeling like I've just hopped on a merry-go-round. Living the dream in Palermo Viejo, mind you. Now, coming from the land of lavish U.S. hospitals, I had no clue about...
