Newcomer Argentine Citizenship for parents by giving birth to child inside Argentina - Legal advice needed?

Lots of anchor babies in BA. In my building there are two Russian women. One just had a baby here and another on another floor that I met is about ready to have one in 2 months. Seems like a lot of this going on here.
That is great to hear so many are coming to Argentina to have anchor babies! Maybe you can give me some tips or advice. I am planning on moving down with my husband and we have a 3-year-old toddler already. We have been advised by a well-respected law firm that we won't have issues having an anchor baby in Argentina. I see that some Russian mothers were turned back a few months ago. Does anyone have any updates about that?

We will come in as tourists for the 90-day visa and then just take a trip over to Montevideo to extend. And then our daughter should be born shortly after that. I know in some countries this is frowned upon but it seems like from researching that there are no issues with this practice there.

I would just hate to get there in 2 months and find issues coming in. Will they ask when we are leaving if they see me pregnant? We don't have a return ticket but is it a good idea to make a fake return ticket?

Which law firm are you using? Can't they tell you about the Russian mothers and if they are being blocked more? Not sure you need to hire a law firm if you have a kid here. It is very easy from what I hear after you have a child born here to get permanent residency here after that.

We are using Celano. They told us that there would be no issues after having the baby born here. I asked their associate about all these Russian mothers coming pregnant that I saw stopped and he said they were stopping some of those groups. Apparently, there was a company selling some package to Buenos Aires and all of them were coming on the same flight. That doesn't seem smart. Generally they don't seem to care about pregnant women coming here to have kids as long as they can afford it. They told me that hospitals are going to start charging foreigners for medical services and to have kids here. So maybe the government won't care so much after that law passes.

We can easily afford to live here. We read many good things about Argentina and how the new president will improve the economy. We also feel like this is a safe country in case some war breaks out which isn't as crazy as it sounded a few years ago.

It seems incredible to me people talk so opening about having anchor babies here. But I guess Argentina truly doesn't care.

I always read about this law firm online in searches. I am assuming they are expensive? How much do they charge to handle an anchor baby case? I thought once you had a kid here it was cut and dry so not sure what a lawyer would need to do but if you don't speak Spanish probably a necessity.

After reading all your posts, I'm half tempted to get someone pregnant in Argentina just for the passport!

My wife and I both went through the process of getting permanent residency here many years ago. But then after going through all that hassle, we had 2 kids born here. After that it is very easy to get permanent residency or even citizenship here. Argentina is one of the easiest countries in the world to get permanent residency once you have kids. It's amazing to see just how many people are having kids here.

Getting 2nd or 3rd permanent resident cards or passports is so common now. You can't go on X without getting spammed to death for companies all marketing this. Who knew this would be so desirable? I have gone through the hassle of getting several permanent residencies before it was popular. Ha, ha.

The child support system tends to work when the couple has been married and then separate or divorce . I know several people who have their wages sequestered by the court.

The big problem arises when the father does not recognize the paternity of the child.

That is good that the courts are garnishing wages like the States and other first world countries. I assumed the judicial system here was so bogged down and didn't work at all. Your example @GlasgowJohn is the first time I heard anyone say they got wages taken by court. That is a positive.

What a wonderful city Buenos Aires is. It feels much different than I expected. It feels so safe compared to Mexico City. We are going to enjoy our stay here. I was expecting things to be worse with all the talk of the bad economy but I worried for nothing. Thank you everyone for your great comments and help.

Glad to hear you are having a good time. Yes, CDMX doesn't compare, in any sense, actually. The way you can walk all over the city here, going from one beautiful neighborhood to another gorgeous one. Traffic here is much, much better too. BA doesn't have that mix of taco + sewage odor that permeates CDMX (that was one of the things that bothered us the most when we lived there last year).

It feels safer and it is safer but, please, tie up your mochila's zippers, NEVER leave your phone on a table, no matter if you are inside or on a patio and keep your phone in your front pocket all the time. A local acquaintance got his phone stolen a few days ago, so it's not just tourists, anybody can be a target so stay vigilant and aware of your surroundings.

I agree @Sunny! Here we walk all over all day. Very easy and safe. Traffic in DF is a nightmare!! Here it isn't bad at all. I agree about the air quality and odor being much better here. We already are careful with our phones. We witnessed in Palermo Soho 3 people getting their phones stolen already. Most locals already told us to be careful. Cellphone theft seems to be rampant here.

Yes be careful with phones. More locals get their cellphones stolen vs. tourists. Look at this article that says as many as 10k phones per day are stolen here.

How did it happen? Where you close to the people being robbed?

I was telling Jenn, the other day, that Palermo Soho and Hollywood are thief-infested because of all the tourists hanging out there, with so many restaurants and Airbnbs in the area. Right now, the way things still are, I would not book a place in that area of Palermo if traveling alone, maybe I would if I were a guy, but, no, I'd much rather book it in Belgrano.

We were sitting across the street eating on Armenia Street and we saw 2 men and they grabbed the phone off the table and then 2 motorcycles picked them up and they road off. Another time we were walking on Guatemala near Don Julio and some tourists were walking down the street laughing and a motorcycle had someone on the back and they grabbed the phone out of her hand! Soho seems to be a hotspot. In the restaurants the waiters have all warned us about being careful when they saw we had iPhones.

Glad you arrived safely and enjoying the city. I've been all over the world. Literally almost 600 cities around the world in 85 countries or so and Buenos Aires is still one of my favorites! It's a special city. It has it's fair share of problems but nothing matches the energy and life of this city.

I still think that most tourists aren't going to have issues at all. I was one of the ones that helped develop Soho and Hollywood after the corralito. I purchased up much of the real estate there. I always saw that potential of what it was going to become. It is a very trendy area and it's the most requested area for tourists to want to stay because of its proximity to so many places. I personally wouldn't choose to live there long time but for tourists coming for a week or so, they mostly want to be in that area. I own a property in Palermo Hollywood and tourists absolutely love it.

Belgrano is a wonderful area but it's just too far away for the vast majority of tourists that are mostly looking to come on vacation. I'm not sure how long @Jenn is looking to stay for. If it's just a few weeks then I think Palermo is fine. Belgrano is just too far for me when I come into town for work. Almost all my meetings are in Palermo or Recoleta with some downtown or Puerto Madero. With traffic just the amount of time it takes to get from Palermo to Belgrano doesn't work as I'm back and forth all the time to Palermo.

I came down with a client of mine and I needed a 2 bedroom with bigger beds and everything in Palermo and Recoleta were booked. I booked a really nice apartment in Belgrano but it was not convenient just going back and forth to meetings. In between meetings I like to come to my apartment but I couldn't do that in Belgrano as it was too far back and forth.

I'd still recommend Palermo or Recoleta for the typical tourist coming. For living long-term I'd still pick Recoleta or parts of Palermo. I'm not a fan of heart of Soho as it's just too congested with tourists. I enjoy staying in my Palermo Hollywood apartment when I come down or my Recoleta apartment before I leased it out long-term. I bought a few new places in Palermo Freud that I will probably stay in when I come down for work.

Yes really anywhere you have to be careful these days but Soho is an easy place for tourists that aren't paying attention to get their phones stolen. Avoid flashy watches. Last year an Uruguayan tourist was wearing a Rolex and 2 guys robbed him crossing the street. It was during the day and caught on camera. Most of them are NOT violent. Most are like this below:

Very very common for phone theft from motorcycles. Be careful with phones on the street if you hear a motorcycle closely. I posted this last year. A reporter got his phone stolen. Thieves don't care and aren't scared.
