Javier Milei Launches Bitcoin Revolution in Argentina

If this is not a hack Milei is dumber than I thought! 🤡🤡🤡🤡

Now do you all believe when I tell you how foolish he is!
I have to be honest Larry. For the longest time I thought you were like Chicken Little with the sky is falling but the more time goes by the more I think you are right.

I believed before that Milei was different than the other politicians that were just out to steal from people but I just read this isn't the first time he got caught defrauding people pumping up companies. The first time was with CoinX. He can't just blame this on not knowing. If he is really this stupid he shouldn't be president of Argentina.

Strange he would do something like he did with the elections coming up later this year. Sounds like he got paid a lot of money to do it.

Mendoza prices shouldn't be as high as Buenos Aires prices but I'd have to believe inflation there is as bad as it is in Buenos Aires and at least 100% just like the rest of Argentina. Doubt Mendoza is immune from the inflation especially at restaurants and cafes/bars.

I just read on X that Trova which is a popular bar that they hold expat Mundo Lingo events is going to close down. I don't know if that is true or not but if true, that probably says a lot about reduction in tourists. I've been reading online and speaking to friends that co-working spaces also are much slower now with many digital nomads that have moved on to more affordable cities.

Saw this review on Trova. $9.23 Canadian is about $6.50 USD.

No way that prices at restaurants aren't going up in Mendoza. I met someone that goes there every year and she said that prices at restaurants have jumped up there too.

This was very strange for Milei to shill for a memecoin. The way he did it too. It wouldn't have gotten pumped up unless he did it like he did. Then he went radio silent for 6 hours and did not post any updates. This is not presidential behavior. I don't know how people can make excuses about it. I notice the local media is not covering it or talking about it.

I don't care what anyone says. The guy is very strange. Talking to dead dogs and such.

I just don't understand how locals pay these prices. Go to any kiosko and a bottled water is the same price as it is in the USA now. I got a bottled water the other day. It was not a big bottle and it was almost $2 dollars. How are locals coping with these prices?

Restaurant prices keep going up. Your example is a good one @LyellLanatone. It is strange. Do you think all of these poverty statistics are true? I don't think they can be with what I see around. I came back from a trip to Brazil and the airport is full of Argentines traveling to Brazil. These locals make a fraction of what some of us expats are making and they are always going out to eat and traveling.

I see stores closed for all of January. How can they afford to do that?? I am beginning to think that things here were never as bad as what people claimed it was.

Something doesn't add up.
Is it clear? Did Milei get money for making that post on his IG? Seems strange time to do it. I didn't know he had problems before doing the same thing with another company. He can't plead ignorance. Someone needs to take his social media feed access away.

If he didn't make any money his sister probably did. Someone got paid. There are a few articles now about it. I am beginning to think that someone wants him out of office. If he isn't smart enough to know better not to post things about this on his Instagram and X accounts then he doesn't have the common sense to be President.

He seems to just be saying things or posting things that people want him to say. He seems like after he won the election he isn't himself and just going along with what Caputo or others are telling him to say. He has inklings of wanting to say what is true but then I see things about how the peso isn't overvalued and inflation has disappeared when I see prices continue to go up and beef prices soaring.

This is so disappointing that President Milei would be involved with something like this Libra scam. This is a good write up by my friend, Bowtied Mara on the matter.

I posted on X shortly after I saw Milei shilling for it. I was hoping his account got hacked but deep down inside I feared it might have been a legitimate post. He has had brushes with terrible judgement with CoinX before and now this. A terrible look for him, especially when he says he is trying to root out corruption in Argentina.

Come on! Milei or his sister is in on this. Anyone that pretends he did not know is a liar. Just like this guy in Mendoza saying there is no inflation there in 14 months!! What kind of fool expects people to believe there is no inflation anywhere in Argentina over 14 months!

Exactly! Look at timing of things. This is fraud. How can people defend this?

Great! Written good. My friend that know crypto tell me impossible that Milei or his team did not know what would happen. Look at his post! Then he delete it! He wait over 5 hours to delete original post. I told you he was fraud last year. I have been posting for long time how expensive Argentina was getting. Everyone in denial of truth.

Even today inflation still go up! Look at beef prices still going up. I have been posting how inflation numbers all lie. This scandal with this crypto coin is kind of like Argentina. It all is a ponzi scheme. And Milei is in charge of the ponzi scheme. Only difference is Milei got caught within 6 hours. This situation with the peso is playing out and soon people will know that the Argentine pozo is ponzi with government doing same thing as Milei is doing. Maybe it last a few years but eventually the ponzi scheme will end and peso will devalue.

Wow is this even legal him pumping meme coins from the Presidential account?

Doesn't seem like it.
No this is not legal. This kind of activity is illegal in our constitution. It is not allowed for President to con people like this. Now maybe people believe this guy is a con man.

A chicken burger meal at KFC went from 7200 pesos to 8900 in just the last month. A 23 % increase in 1 month !
Prices are very crazy here. Milei makes beef too expensive so people have to switch to chicken and pork and now those prices are also going up.

Politicians here in Argentina all steal from the people. It fact of life. Even those of us that like Cristina know she steal from Argentina. At least she smart enough not to leave proof like Milei and his sister.

At least I am happy to see some foreigner people that like Milei have courage to admit this is wrong for him to do. All the Milei fan always excuse all the bad thing he do.

Yes I laugh when read @StatusNomadicus say no inflation for 14 months! That very stupid thing to say. All over Argentina there tremendous inflation in past year. I never read something so stupid until I see Milei post for pump Libra.

The New York Times just posted about this mess.

I do not understand why he would do something like this. From all the evidence this looks bad. Very bad. That is the problem with Argentina, money usually corrupts people. His party was looking good for the mid-term elections. What a way to sabbatoge himself and his party. Argentina is never boring.

It's not good. That's for sure. I had a really bad feeling real-time right after he posted that post on X. I was at the airport heading to London and had a terrible feeling, especially considering that over the past few months he has posted some photos with some people in the crypto industry that had NO track record and he was passing them off as "experts".

I've been a huge Milei fan since before he got elected but my opinion of him has gone way downhill after this scandal. If you look at the timing of his posts, the content of what he wrote and also taking almost 6 hours to remove the post it does not bode well.

Best case is that Milei was a moron for allowing himself to get conned like this and has terrible people around him. Worst case scenario I don't even want to think about. I have to call them like I see them.

Did someone really post that they have not seen prices rise in the past 1`4 months? I am not sure if that is true but that can't be the case because monthly inflation is still at least 2% to 3% a month and the dollar has been flat. I would like to see examples of what has not gone up. I think some items at the market have stopped going up but there are plenty of things that keep going up.

Restaurant prices I can't imagine have not doubled in Mendoza like they have in BA.

Most in Argentina give into temptation with money. Just about every profession while I lived in BA over the past many years almost everyone gives in. Most presidents are all criminals that steal. If not directly than indirectly. Milei and his sister have a different model. They might not be stealing like other politicians but there have been many complaints of his sister Karina charging money for access and this probably will be the case. A shame.

What a let down. I thought maybe Milei might have been different but I'm afraid he is like other Presidents in the past. His time may be limited now.

Some of my friends have tried to convince me for months that Milei and his sister were all about the cash. She was sharing people to get access to him for meetings. She does not care about Argentina. She is using him like an ATM machine. She was ultimately the one that got him access to these scammers.

I don't see any upside for why he got involved in this and from what I can tell all he had to do was not screw himself over for the mid terms. Now I don't know how much this will affect him, personally I don't think it will be as bad as some think. I think anyone who followed and invested bc of Milei are just as ignorant and dumb for doing so. As bad as it sounds with the history of corruption here, people may not take this as serious as if this happened else where. I do think it might scare aware investors, at least short term, more than voters come the mid-terms. But who knows, we'll see.

Listen to this guy who directly implicates Javier Milei and his government. He sounds scared. Milei definitely was in on it or his people. You can hear the fear in his voice.

Corruption is common in Argentina. That part is nothing new. Obviously someone on Milei's team was in on this. I don't know how involved Milei was but he comes across as very naive. I don't know anything about crypto but this is something that he never should have touched.

I watched this video earlier today. He has also gone on other places. I would think he would get an attorney but he sounds scared. In this video he also implicates Trump's team. I fear for this guy. I don't know how much this will affect Milei but it is clear he has people in his administration that were in on this.

Let’s see what Milei has to say tonight, as he will give his version or explanation after the disaster. Beyond the mistake he made, because obviously, it’s not right for a president with so much influence to be giving financial advice, all those who accuse or criticize him have no moral authority to do so; their past condemns them, like Massa, his wife, etc. Even the lawyer who filed a complaint against Milei in the U.S. has 11 extortion charges. It’s amusing how all the "vultures" are taking advantage of this mistake by Milei to rise up or play politics.

Of course his political opponents will jump on the bandwagon to use this to criticize him. I hope he survives this mess. My feeling is he shouldn't be putting himself into these situations.

What a farce all of this is. Milei appoints a fake committee to investigate himself. 🤡

Last night on TV he says he did nothing wrong. First he says it was a legitimate project and now says people deserved to lose money like a casino. Says only around 4-5 Argentines lost money and mostly Americans and Chinese. I’m sure that will go down well with Trump.

If Trump is smart he will distance himself with Milei as he had his own problems with his memecoin.
